Flower border is a kind of human-friendly landscaping form based on perennial ornamental plants which fully embodies the rich plant color and diversity. It has been widely used in urban green space in recent years. However, the quality of flower border design and construction is still uneven in China. There are few studies on landscape evaluation of color feature, and most of them are qualitative analysis and subjective evaluation. This paper takes flower borders in urban green space in Hangzhou and Shanghai as an example to obtain subjective aesthetic preference evaluation and objective emotional perception feedback from the public through questionnaire and facial expression recognition technology.Quantitative analysis of color features of flower borders has been carried out, combined with the configuration of classical flower border cases,to propose the optimization strategy of color visual effect. The results can provide reference for the design and promote the quality of urban green space and the sustainable development of flower border. The main conclusions of the research are as follows:(1)Nine color attributes were extracted from 18 flower border plots, including color contrast, color brightness, layer richness, number of color schemes, number of colors, number of plant patches, proportion of green vegetation, proportion of cool color and proportion of warm color. The evaluation model of color attributes was constructed by principal component analysis with the interpretation rate of 78.32%.Three main color features of flower border were extracted, which were color feature, visual perception and color configuration according to the weight of factors.(2)The proportion of green vegetation of the flower borders with higher comprehensive score in color feature evaluation accounts for about 30%-40%.The main colors of these flower borders are cold colors or mixture of cold and warm colors, and there is no obvious difference in the proportion of cold and warm color. There are more than 5 kinds of vegetation colors in these flower borders and the level of color brightness, color contrast and layer richness are higher.(3)There was a significant correlation between public aesthetic perception and emotional valence of flower borders. There were significant differences in the scores of aesthetic preference and the levels of emotional pleasure among different flower border sites.Proportion of green vegetation, proportion of cool colors, color brightness, layer richness and number of plant patches had positive effects on public aesthetic preference and emotional valence, while the proportion of warm colors had negative effects.Color contrast, number of colors and number of color schemes of flower borders only had a positive effect on public aesthetic preference, but had no significant effect on emotional valence. The aesthetic preference and emotional perception of flower borders of male were higher than female.(4)The color attribute-aesthetic and color attribute-valence regression model of flower borders are established,in which the proportion of cool color, color contrast, color brightness, layer richness, number of colors, number of color schemes and number of plant patches are 7 attributes with strong predictive ability of aesthetic preference, and the model fit degree is 0.444.The proportion of cool color and color brightness had better predictive ability of public emotional valence, and the model fit degree was 0.023.(5)Based on the comprehensive evaluation of the color features of the flower borders and the analysis of the classic cases in Britain, the improvement strategies of the flower border construction in Hangzhou and Shanghai were put forward, including paying attention to the proportion of green, choosing the reasonable number of color schemes, and improving the application of cool color plants. It is suggested to pay attention to the use of complementary tone and color contrast to highlight the visual highlights;Gray and white plants can be used to transition landscape space color;Non-color characteristic factors such as different plant morphological patches are used to match planting,so as to enrich the landscape layer of flower border. |
