| Currently,in the process of implementing innovation strategies in the construction industry,due to the scarcity of resources and the difficulty of imitation,individual enterprises are clearly at a disadvantage in terms of acquiring or competing for certain resources,and constraints from knowledge and resources have become a significant obstacle to the development of construction enterprises,while the construction of alliance portfolios is an important way for enterprises to quickly acquire resources.At the same time,the increasing complexity of building alliance portfolios in construction enterprises has put forward higher requirements on their alliance portfolio management capabilities.In this context,we study the composition dimensions and formation mechanisms of alliance capabilities of construction enterprises and analyse their impact mechanisms on innovation performance,aiming to explore how construction enterprises in China can better promote their innovation development by building and improving their own alliance portfolio management capabilities.Based on a review of theories related to alliance portfolio management capabilities and innovation performance,the characteristics of the business activities of construction firms and the macro environment they face are analysed,a mapping of the theory of alliance portfolio management capabilities to the actual capabilities system of construction firms is established,and three dimensions that constitute the alliance portfolio management capabilities of construction firms are proposed.Whether alliance portfolio management capability,which is essentially a dynamic capability,can intervene in the innovation performance of firms by influencing absorptive capacity,the basic capability of core firms to dispose of resources,and whether environmental uncertainty plays a moderating role in the path of alliance portfolio management capability affecting the innovation performance of construction firms are also the focus of this study.Through an extensive literature review,we identified the measurement elements of alliance portfolio management capability,absorptive capacity,innovation performance and environmental uncertainty in construction firms,and designed a questionnaire to investigate them accordingly.Using the 322 valid questionnaires collected,a structural equation model was developed to validate the composition of the alliance’s portfolio management capability,absorptive capacity,innovation performance and environmental uncertainty,and to verify the pathways of the alliance’s portfolio management capability and its impact on innovation performance.The main findings include: the three dimensions of alliance portfolio management capabilities of construction firms are portfolio design capabilities,portfolio construction capabilities and portfolio operation and control capabilities;alliance portfolio management capabilities of construction firms have a significant contribution to innovation performance;absorptive capabilities play a partially mediating role in the path of alliance portfolio management capabilities affecting innovation performance of construction firms;environmental uncertainty reinforces the alliance portfolio The correlation between alliance portfolio management capabilities and innovation performance of construction firms is strengthened by environmental uncertainty.Based on the above findings,strategic suggestions are made to promote the innovation development of construction enterprises from the perspective of the construction and enhancement of alliance portfolio management capabilities.The study of alliance portfolio management capability and innovation in the same theoretical framework based on the perspective of construction enterprises not only enriches the theoretical study of alliance portfolio management capability in the construction field,but also provides a theoretical and practical reference for Chinese construction enterprises to deeply understand the connotation of alliance portfolio management capability,cultivate and enhance alliance portfolio management capability and carry out innovation activities in a complex and changing environment. |
