A Study Of Private Landscape Garden Sites And Site Investigation Methods In Central Guangdong,Ming And Qing Dynasties

The study of private gardens in Central Guangdong during the Ming and Qing dynasties,as the most comprehensive of all Lingnan gardens,is conducive to summarising the regional characteristics of Lingnan gardens and uncovering the wisdom of ancient people in creating their habitat.This paper takes the private gardens in central Guangdong during the Ming and Qing dynasties as the object of study.Through literature review,field research,historical maps,analysis and induction,and comparative studies,it compares and summarises the distribution characteristics,garden site features,and site investigation methods of private gardens in central Guangdong during the Ming and Qing dynasties.Based on the book Yuan Ye,the study combines the interpretation of relevant historical materials and theoretical analysis to explore the site investigation regional characteristics and methods of private gardens in central Guangdong.The study hopes to complement the theories related to the site investigation methods of Lingnan gardens and to pass on and develop the traditional wisdom of the human habitat,with a view to providing suggestions for regional planning and design.Firstly,it summarizes the distribution characteristics and site types of private gardens in central Guangdong.Focusing on Guangzhou and Foshan,the study analyses the distribution characteristics of private gardens at the macro,meso and micro levels,and classifies the types of private garden sites in central Guangdong into five types: mountain,urban,rural,suburban and waterside sites.On the whole,suburban has the highest number of garden site types,followed by mountain,urban,rural and waterside sites.Secondly,it explores the site investigation and construction process of different garden sites,and summarizes the characteristics of site investigation.Through the analysis of five representative cases of Yuncong Beiye,Foshan Liang Yuan,Gardens in Lychee Bay Area,Gardens in the northern bank of the Pearl River and Donglin Garden,this paper tries to summarize site investigation characteristics of private gardens in Central Guangdong of the five garden site types.Finally,the site characteristics and site investigation methods of private gardens in central Guangdong are summarized.This study compares the site characteristics of private gardens in Suzhou and Hangzhou,and summarises the site characteristics of private gardens in central Guangdong through the previous study.Based on the book Yuan Ye,this paper explores the regional characteristics of site investigation in private gardens in central Guangdong,integrating the site investigation of gardens in Central Guangdong from the perspectives of social and natural background,urban construction and rural landscape and so on.And this paper exploring the site investigation methods of private gardens in Central Guangdong in five aspects:planning the landscape according to the environment,investigating the source of water,mapping of land planning sites,retaining trees to get views,and responding to the summer hot-humid climate.From the regional point of view of central Guangdong,this paper further interprets the theory of the site investigation of private gardens in the book Yuan Ye,and complements the theoretical research on garden sites and site investigation of Lingnan gardens.It is hoped that the study will inherit and carry forward the wisdom of the habitat contained in traditional Lingnan gardens,and inject a new connotation into the traditional theory of garden sites.It is hoped that the study will provide guidance and suggestions for the development of a regional habitat in central Guangdong,and provide evidence-based site selection and planning strategies prior to the construction of urban and rural spaces.
