Traditional villages are the quintessence of farming civilization and the precious historical and cultural heritage of the Chinese nation. With the acceleration of the urbanization process, the village culture has been continuously impacted by the urban civilization. How to protect traditional village culture and make it accompany with modern urban civilization has become an important research topic. At the same time,in many suburban villages, due to the great changes in the population structure, production and lifestyle, especially under the requirements of the normalization of the current epidemic, the internal communication space of the village has become an important place for the daily life of the villagers. How to adapt to the changing needs of the villagers’ behavior and how to improve the internal communication space environment of the village for the people is particularly important.Under the combined effect of natural geography and historical development, the western part of Beijing has rich traditional village resources. At present,Beijing’s urban development strategy emphasizes the need to fully exploit the advantages of villages, improve rural public service facilities, and strengthen comprehensive management of the rural environment. However, the problem of unbalanced development between urban and rural areas is still prominent.Due to the backward management and renewal model, the utilization rate of internal space in villages in western Beijing is not high, and the space environment still needs to be further optimized. This paper selects Liuliqu Village,Sanjiadian Village and Mayu Village as the research focus of three suburban villages in western Beijing.First, use qualitative methods to classify and study the internal communication space of the three villages.Secondly, through the four morphological indicators of street orientation, greening rate, aspect ratio, and sky visibility factor,we quantitatively study the internal communication space of the village. At the same time, field research and analysis were conducted to analyze the communication characteristics, communication time period, and types of communication activities of the active people in the village communication space. On this basis, the air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, solar radiation, and black ball temperature of the three villages were measured on the spot. Then, the thermal environment measurement results were input into the ENVI-met model to conduct thermal environment simulation analysis for the three villages. The results show that ENVI-met can better simulate the thermal environment elements in spring, summer and autumn, while the error is larger in winter.Considering that spring and autumn are short in Beijing and the thermal environment is similar, the thermal comfort in spring and summer is simulated. The results show that the UTCI value in spring is in the range of mild thermal stress and strong thermal stress, and the human body feels more comfortable;the UTCI value in summer is in the range of mild thermal stress, strong thermal stress, and very strong thermal stress, and the human body feels thermal discomfort. The factors that affect people’s behavior and activities can be divided into four categories: thermal environment factors, physiological factors, psychological factors and other factors. This paper focuses on the relationship between thermal environmental factors and crowd behavior.Considering the characteristics of the number of people active in the social space, the research focuses on the correlation between the crowd behavior and thermal environment in Liuliqu Fitness Square and Mayu Fitness Square in spring and summer. The results are as follows: In spring, thermal environments such as air temperature and solar radiation can affect the number of active people to a certain extent, but they are not the main factors. In summer, solar radiation can significantly affect people’s behavior. Finally, two strategies for enhancing outdoor thermal comfort are summarized:morphological elements and green infrastructure. The Liuliqu Fitness Plaza has been designed to optimize the environment: from the optimization of the layout, rest facilities are placed in the area with lower average radiation temperature to make full use of the space;from the renovation of the green infrastructure, the height of the trees on the east side of the fitness square is increased and the square is lowered. The aspect ratio and sky visibility factor of the middle area increase the greening rate.
