The rapid development of urbanization has brought people a lot of convenience,but the consequent negative effects are also increasingly significant.The cost of traditional building materials is increasing day by day,and it is rich in organic,inorganic or radioactive substances(radon gas,benzene series,formaldehyde,VOCs,antifreeze ammonia)which is easy to volatilize,causing indoor pollution,great psychological and physiological damage to people.In addition,the application of building materials is also easy to produce construction waste,which causes great pollution to the ecological environment.Therefore,research and development of new non-toxic,non-pollution building materials is imminent.As a natural building materials,bamboo has a long history in architecture.In addition,compared with wood,bamboo has the advantages of short growth cycle,strong reproduction ability,low price,good mechanical properties and high carbon dioxide adsorption capacity.In addition,the abundance and diversity of bamboo resources also make bamboo has a very wide range of application prospects.However,as a building materials,bamboo products are too simple in color,easily corroded by microorganisms,and have a short service life,which limits the development and application of bamboo.In this study,it was found that bamboo can be treated with oxidizing reagent by wet chemical method,and the chromophore group can replace the hydroxyl group on the cellulose molecular chain,so as to improve the absorption rate of specific light wavelength of bamboo,and thus obtain a series of color gradient of bamboo(cherry color,cinnamon color,amber color,honey color,etc.).At the same time,since nitric acid treatment of bamboo does not maintain its bright color for long,we further filled the porous bamboo with a low saturated vapor pressure,non-toxic polymer PEG400.The introduced liquid phase enhances the reflectivity of visible light and enables bamboo to maintain its bright color for a long time.The PEG400 treated bamboo can keep bright color for more than 14 days at a relative humidity of 65±5%.In contrast,bamboo that has not been treated with PEG400 fades in minutes.At the same time,PEG400 filled in the three-dimensional network structure can also prevent the migration of water-soluble nutrients to the epidermis of bamboo,and the interruption of nutrients makes the modified bamboo obtain anti-microbial corrosion properties.With its bright color and anti-microbial properties,modified bamboo has more potential applications as a green building material.
