Cross-cultural Context: The Evolution Of Paisley Pattern And Its Design Exploration In National Trend Of Fashion

The classic Paisley pattern originated from the ancient East,gained wide popularity in the West,and eventually went global.This small pattern has traveled for thousands of years,stepping through the east and west,changing into countless different temperaments during its long journey,and always maintaining a unique and strong style,eventually transforming from a cult totem to a street symbol,forming a unique path of communication.In 2017,hip-hop culture’s unique personalized dressing style entered the public eye through variety shows and quickly gained the love and imitation of young people,who always wore bandanna with the Paisley pattern or clothes with the Paisley pattern in the form of square bandanna.These young people wear bandanna with Paisley patterns or wear clothing with Paisley patterns in the form of bandanna,and this image of bandanna,which is called "cashew flowers" by the mass market,has become an iconic visual symbol in hip-hop culture.This phenomenon is used as a starting point for the study of the evolution of the paisley pattern,in order to explore the reasons behind the introduction of this pattern into street culture in the second half of the 20 th century.Through the collection of a large number of documents,the article sorts out the historical development and dissemination paths of the Paisley motif,traces the corners and marks left by its dancing steps,and explores the changes of the aesthetic value of the same classic motif in different times and places.After that,we compare the changes in the image,name and connotation of the Paisley pattern at each stage of dissemination in a cross-cultural perspective,and explore the inner logic of its transformation from an ancient totem to a street symbol.Through analyzing the cases where the Paisley pattern was applied in the street fashion after taking to the street,extracting and summarizing the design techniques shown in the cases,summarizing the design transformation techniques suitable for the strong image of the Paisley pattern through reference,and at the same time introducing the traditional Chinese art expressions into the redesign of the Paisley pattern,finally realizing this project in the context of the "national fashion",the design transformation of this study is realized.Based on the tracing of the development history of Paisley patterns,the article makes inferences on the driving force of pattern dissemination,collates and summarizes the application methods of Paisley patterns in street wear,and forms a reference path for its design transformation after achieving fusion with local trend culture in the context of national fashion clothing.In terms of design practice,we have made a multi-directional attempt on the selection of each element and the overall style tendency.Through this research and practice,it is hoped that it will not only be a reference for the localized expression of foreign art forms,but also a reference for the dissemination of traditional Chinese art.
