Behind the rapid development of industrial economy,at the cost of resource depletion and environmental deterioration,the deterioration of ecological environment has become a huge obstacle to global social and economic development.The development of digitalization provides a new way to reduce carbon emissions and improve environmental quality.Therefore,it is of great significance to explore the relationship between digitalization and enterprise carbon performance.Firstly,this paper systematically combs and analyzes the existing literature on digitalization and enterprise carbon performance,and based on Schumpeter innovation theory,sustainable development theory,green development theory,dynamic capability theory and resource allocation efficiency theory.Then,this paper takes panel data of listed industrial enterprises from 2012 to 2020 as research samples,chooses appropriate measurement methods to measure digitalization and corporate carbon performance,uses fixed effect regression model to explore the relationship between digitalization and corporate carbon performance,and builds a mediation effect model to test the specific mechanism of digitalization on corporate carbon performance.The results show that: 1)Through descriptive statistical analysis of digitization and enterprise carbon performance,it is found that there are great differences between different enterprises in the level of digitization and enterprise carbon performance,but the overall level of digitization and enterprise carbon performance has made significant progress.The panel data of listed industrial enterprises from 2012 to 2020 were taken as research samples,and appropriate measurement methods were selected to measure digitalization and corporate carbon performance.Fixed effect regression model was used to explore the relationship between digitalization and corporate carbon performance,and mediation effect model was constructed to test the specific mechanism of digitalization on corporate carbon performance.2)The regression analysis results of fixed effect model show that digitization is an effective means to reduce corporate carbon emissions and can significantly improve corporate carbon performance.The higher the corporate profitability,the stronger the corporate carbon performance;The higher the ownership concentration and equipment renewal rate,the worse it is for enterprises to improve their carbon performance.By adopting various methods for robustness test,digitization can still significantly improve the carbon performance level of enterprises,and the research results are robust.By using instrumental variables and using two-stage least square regression,this paper effectively alleviates the endogenous problem of the model.3)The results of the intermediary test model show that there are multiple action paths in the process of the influence of digitalization on the enterprise carbon performance.Digitalization improves the enterprise carbon performance by improving the enterprise green technology innovation ability,weakening the enterprise financial friction and strengthening the absorption capacity.4)In the analysis of firm heterogeneity,it is found that digitalization in the western region has a more significant promoting effect on firm carbon performance compared with the central and eastern regions.Compared with non-state-owned enterprises,the digitalization of state-owned enterprises has a more obvious promoting effect on their carbon performance.When the degree of digitization is higher,the absorptive capacity of enterprises is stronger,and the proportion of institutional shareholding is larger,the promotion effect of digitization on enterprise carbon performance is more significant.Finally,based on the research conclusions,the following suggestions are put forward: 1)Enterprises should reasonably integrate and allocate internal and external resources,enhance the efficiency of resource allocation,and promote digital transformation;2)The government should strengthen financial control and reduce financial friction among enterprises;3)Enterprises should enhance their capacity for green technology innovation;4)Enterprises should pay attention to the cultivation of absorptive capacity,improve their absorptive capacity,and accelerate the integration process of digital technology and enterprises;5)The government should adjust and optimize the allocation of digital basic resources and rationally allocate digital basic resources;6)Deepening the reform of state-owned enterprises and fully unleashing their vitality. |
