The children’s market has gradually grown,and the market for children’s educational toys has significant economic potential.With the continuous improvement of national living standards,as well as the promotion of the three-child policy and the younger parent structure,influenced by the increasing promotion of quality education.Since school-age children are in a critical developmental stage,there is a growing need for all types of educational toys.The market for educational toys is unequal today,and there are issues like poor targeted design,a lack of understanding of the educational function,a lack of safety consideration,a lack of interactivity,and a lack of aesthetic appeal.This thesis proposes the design of educational toys for school-age children based on the model of interactive narrative and its characteristics in order to promote the performances of educational toys and meet the needs of school-age children as well as to explore the application of interactive narrative.There are six chapters in the thesis: In Chapter 1,the context,significance,subject matter,research technique,and present state of the field were introduced.The second chapter introduces story and interactive narrative development,details cross-narrative and its application structure and characteristics,and looks at cross-narrative application instances in design.To build the groundwork for the subsequent study,the ideas of school-aged children and educational toys are also specified,along with the concept of educational toys.The third chapter categorizes and researches the current market condition for educational toys.At this point,interviews with children are done,while questionnaires are given to their parents,and the Kano model is used to analyze and rank their demand attributes.Chapter 4 analyzes the carrier of the highest adaptation form for interactive educational toys,as well as for puzzle subject,aesthetic elements,based on the above interaction narrative related concepts,on the basis of the interaction narrative of school-aged children educational toys design focus,and combined with the school-aged children,give reference guidance for the next chapter’s design.The related design concepts for the educational toys based on the interactive narrative are proposed in the fifth chapter,and the design practice is applied accordingly.The puzzle toys created based on interactive theory are subjected to a subjective evaluation test in order to confirm the project’s logic.The entire topic is outlined in chapter 6,and the related fields of interactive storytelling and instructional toys are discussed.By separating the pertinent theories and fusing design practice with user needs,this project has shown the value of interactive narrative theory to the design and development of educational toys for school-age children.This enriches the pertinent theoretical research and also generates fresh design concepts for the creation of educational toys.
