At the beginning, the thesis defines what we mean by the word educational game and touches on some other concepts related to it. The thesis also describes the fundamental characteristics of educational game, the salient classes of it and the process of developing it.The educational game is a media having complicated responding strategy and flexible interactive mechanism, so the educational game development is considered as a difficult enterprise by many people as well as other computer game developments. It brings on the short of educational game developers and makes the amount of educational game is too few to meet the demands of the learners. Proceeding from two kinds of name of educational game, the thesis analyzes two modes of educational game development which are represented by two kinds of name and extends the concept of school-based educational game. Based on the survey and research on elementary and high school teachers, the thesis puts forward the practicing proposal of developing school-based educational game.As a new media for study, the purpose of applying school-based educational game is to construct a comfortable and amused interactive study system which is full of stimulant mechanism. The system makes learners studying and playing at the same time, named as game learning. On the basis of analysis and research on related internal and external education theories, the thesis concludes the game learning theory. The game learning theory reflects the significance and goal of developing educational game and also is a basic theory instructing software design.During the process of developing the game, game design is both and initial stage and a stage providing blueprint, so it is vitally important step. The thesis approaches and discusses the design strategies preliminarily on the basis of analysis of some educational games and some theories such as game learning theory, humanistic psychology, subject theory, game theory and so on.Instructed by these strategies, the author designs an educational game about the partial context of Oxford English (7a). In the last part, the thesis focuses on analyzing on it.
