Innovative Design Of Traditional Costume Handicrafts In The Zhangjiakou Region

Chinese traditional handicraft culture is a comprehensive expression of deep cultural heritage,historical values and unique artistic thinking concepts,which embody the essence of folk culture and also contain the wisdom of technological development.It is not only a valuable asset of traditional civilisation,but also a source of modern spiritual civilisation.The protection and inheritance of traditional crafts and culture is vital to building a nation’s cultural confidence and enhancing the soft power of national culture,and will provide a strong impetus for traditional cultural innovation.In recent years,China has launched a series of reforms to actively promote the development of outstanding Chinese culture,and has taken the promotion of cultural creativity,the revitalisation of traditional crafts,and the promotion of high-quality heritage development of traditional crafts as important initiatives to promote the creative development and innovative transformation of traditional culture.Thus,the exploration,recording,collation,research and development of traditional craftwork can not only enrich conventional culture,but also inspire national pride and promote economic and cultural growth,thereby promoting social progress.Zhangjiakou is a unique geographical location where many civilisations meet and multiple cultures merge,and is known for its distinctive merchant culture,military culture and "mouth" culture,forming a unique regional cultural identity.The development of trade and commerce over the last hundred years has resulted in a multicultural ecological agglomeration and a variety of production and lifestyle styles,as well as the development of a variety of handicrafts,such as leather,embroidery,felt and paper cutting.Since modern times,although the impact of industrial civilisation has led to a gradual decline in the modern application of Zhangjiakou’s traditional costume crafts,the unique aesthetics of traditional costume crafts and the important values they carry have become increasingly conspicuous.Based on the combing of the regional culture of Zhangjiakou,the research and innovation of the regional traditional handicraft culture and the dress handicraft,this project adopts the methods of field investigation,literature collection and innovative practice to complete the innovative design of the traditional dress handicraft of Zhangjiakou,with the traditional felt as the main fabric.The research was followed by a detailed explanation of the history,artistic features and techniques of Zhangjiakou’s distinctive handicrafts,with examples of two representative traditional felting crafts and traditional kuchi leather crafts in terms of clothing design and innovative thinking at the level of cultural and creative products,and finally a summary of the commonalities and individualities between Zhangjiakou’s clothing crafts and other traditional crafts.The exhibition concludes that the traditional handicrafts of Zhangjiakou provide new ideas for the development of the modern apparel industry,with a view to providing more innovative ideas for traditional handicrafts in the path of modern design and better meeting the needs of the contemporary design development.The innovative design practice of traditional costume handicrafts in Zhangjiakou in this project starts from the theme and explores the innovation of traditional costume handicrafts to achieve the purpose of integrating traditional cultural elements into modern costume design for aesthetic and creative transformation.
