Abstract/Summary:
Construction industry is an important industry in China’s social and economic development, but there are some problems such as high energy consumption, high carbon emission and low efficiency. The unbalanced development of different regions leads to significant regional differences in carbon emission.Due to the self-strengthening of high-carbon production technology, system and industrial structure, the development of the construction industry is trapped in carbon locking, and the lack of motivation for low-carbon technology innovation. Therefore,it is necessary to consider the spillover effect and clarify the spatial distribution characteristics of the carbon unlocking efficiency of the construction industry and the action mechanism of key influencing factors,so as to promote regional collaborative emission reduction and joint mechanism, and achieve the overall emission reduction target. In this context, from the perspective of time and space, this paper explores the evolution characteristics of carbon unlocking efficiency in 30 provinces of China and the impact of multi-dimensional urbanization on carbon unlocking efficiency.Firstly, the mechanism of carbon lock-in in China’s construction industry is analyzed. Then, based on the panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2005 to 2020,the US-SBM model was used to accurately calculate the carbon unlocking efficiency of the construction industry. Then, based on ESDA and Markov chain model, the spatial agglomeration of carbon unlocking efficiency in construction industry and the evolution characteristics of efficiency types are discussed respectively from static and dynamic perspectives. Finally, the spatiotemporal and geographical weighted regression model(GTWR)was used to explore the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of different influencing factors on the carbon unlocking efficiency of the construction industry based on Arc GIS spatial visualization technology. The research conclusions are as follows: 1)The carbon unlocking efficiency of Chinese provinces has a trend of fluctuating increase over time from 2005 to 2020,but the overall average carbon emission efficiency is not high,so it still needs to be optimized to achieve the best efficiency.2)From the perspective of spatial static agglomeration, the carbon unlocking efficiency of the construction industry in China has a significant positive correlation agglomeration feature. The "hot spot" agglomeration area is mainly concentrated in Hunan,Chongqing and Guizhou, and the "cold spot" is concentrated in Northeast China. From the perspective of spatial dynamic evolution of carbon unlocking efficiency types, the "club convergence" phenomenon is gradually formed due to the spillover effect of neighborhood types.3)The influence of various factors on the carbon unlocking efficiency of the construction industry presents significant spatio-temporal heterogeneity. The impact of urbanization rate,R&D investment and enterprise ownership structure on efficiency is positive and negative, and the regional differences are significant.Energy utilization efficiency, enterprise development scale and enterprise profit are mainly promoting. The level of economic development and industrial structure mainly inhibit the improvement of efficiency. Finally, based on the research conclusions, this paper puts forward targeted policy suggestions on the improvement of carbon unlocking efficiency in the construction industry as well as the strategies for carbon unlocking, energy conservation and emission reduction in the construction industry.
