The report of the 20th National Congress of the CPC pointed out that we should promote the high-end,intelligent and green development of the manufacturing industry.Therefore,accelerating the intelligent transformation of manufacturing industry,reducing pollution emissions,and practicing the concept of green development have become the development direction of manufacturing enterprises in the new era.Improving the productivity level of green factors in manufacturing is not only an important part of high-quality development,but also the only way to promote the development of Chinese path to modernization.Therefore,exploring how the intelligent level of manufacturing enterprises affects their green total factor productivity has become an important research topic that needs to be explored and answered urgently.This paper attempts to systematically explore how manufacturing intelligence affects and affects the level of green total factor productivity from both theoretical and empirical perspectives.First of all,based on the current situation of China’s manufacturing industry’s intellectualization and pollution discharge,this paper theoretically explores the impact and mechanism of intellectualization development on GTFP from both direct and indirect impacts,and points out that intellectualization has a threshold effect on green technology progress of enterprises;Secondly,based on the super-efficiency SBM model of unexpected output and ML index method,the green total factor productivity of listed companies in manufacturing industry is calculated,and the enterprise robot penetration calculated by the number of industrial robots provided by IFR is used to measure the enterprise intelligence level;Thirdly,with the help of fixed effect model and quantile model,this paper analyzes the impact of intelligence on green total factor productivity of enterprises,analyzes the related heterogeneity,and verifies the intermediary effect in the impact mechanism;Finally,it explores the threshold effect of enterprise R&D investment,and uses the endogenous transformation model to conduct counterfactual analysis on the changes of enterprise scale and organizational structure after the intelligent transformation.The research results of this paper show that: 1.Intelligence has a significant positive impact on GTFP of enterprises,and the level of intelligence has a greater role in promoting green total factor productivity of enterprises at high quantiles;2.The progress of green technology has a positive partial intermediary effect,while the efficiency of green technology has a masking effect,which explains the reason for this kind of masking effect from the change of scale effect;3.According to different regions,industries and enterprise attributes,there is heterogeneity in the role of intelligent development.The level of intelligent development has a greater effect on the promotion of green total factor productivity in the western region,high-tech manufacturing industry and highly competitive industries,as well as state-owned enterprises;4.There is a single threshold for R&D investment.As the level of R&D investment continues to rise,the role of intelligence in promoting the progress of green technology continues to increase;5.The transformation of enterprises from low intelligence to high intelligence has resulted in changes in the scale of enterprises and the organizational structure of employees,which is manifested in the reduction of the overall scale,the reduction of the demand for production personnel,and the improvement of the quality level of employees.
