In recent years,with the continuous growth of China’s economy,ecological and environmental issues have become increasingly prominent.As environmental pollution problems continue to emerge,the establishment of an ecological civilization and the protection of the ecological environment have become the fundamental policies of China,as well as one of the key issues of national concern.The green transformation of industrial structure is considered as a crucial link connecting sustainable high-quality economic development and environmental protection.How the green transformation of industrial structure will impact the ecological environment has become a hot research topic among scholars.Against this backdrop,this paper aims to explore the intrinsic relationship between the green transformation of industrial structure and the development of ecological environment quality.This paper conducts a quantitative study on the green transformation of the industrial structure and ecological environment quality of 30 provinces and cities across the country from 2009 to 2020 using panel data.Firstly,an evaluation system for the green transformation of the industrial structure and ecological environment quality is constructed,and the entropy method is used for weighting to measure the development level of the green transformation of the industrial structure and ecological environment quality.The paper then carries out a comprehensive evaluation analysis of the eastern,central,and western regions of China in terms of time and space.The results show that the average value of the comprehensive index of the green transformation of the industrial structure in the whole country increased from 0.2987 in 2009 to 0.3411 in2020.The average value of the eastern region increased from 0.3263 to 0.3483,that of the central region increased from 0.2894 to 0.2967,and that of the western region increased from 0.2782 to 0.2894.The average value of the comprehensive index of ecological environment quality in the whole country showed a fluctuating upward trend,increasing from 0.3386 to 0.4960.Among them,the average value of the eastern region increased from 0.3979 to 0.4999,that of the central region increased from 0.3249 to0.5171,and that of the western region increased from 0.2892 to 0.4766.Finally,the paper applies a spatial panel econometric model to explore the influence of the green transformation of the industrial structure on ecological environment quality and uses the Moran index to verify the spatial correlation between the green transformation of the industrial structure and the ecological environment.Based on the summary and analysis,this paper uses the Spatial Durbin Model to conduct an empirical analysis of the impact of China’s green transformation of industrial structure on ecological environment quality.The empirical results show that:(1)the green transformation of the industrial structure significantly promotes China’s ecological environment quality;under the spatial effect,the green transformation of the industrial structure helps to improve the ecological environment quality of both the local and surrounding areas.(2)From the perspective of control variables,the improvement of urbanization level suppresses ecological environment quality;while the degree of government intervention,economic development level,and scale of foreign investment all have significant positive effects on ecological environment quality.(3)In terms of spatial effects of control variables,the expansion of government intervention and foreign investment scale can not only enhance the ecological environment quality of the local region but also have a positive impact on the ecological environment quality of surrounding cities.The improvement of population quality and economic development level helps to improve the ecological environment quality of the local area,but may have a suppressive effect on the ecological environment quality of surrounding cities.The improvement of urbanization level has a positive impact on the ecological environment quality of surrounding areas,but a negative effect on the local area.Finally,based on the analysis of China’s green transformation of industrial structure and the status of ecological environment quality and empirical results,this paper puts forward relevant countermeasures and suggestions for improving China’s ecological environment quality while upgrading the green transformation of industrial structure.
