With the continuous progress of carbon peaking and carbon neutralization work, our carbon emission reduction has made some progress, and the country’s energy consumption per unit GDP decreases continuously. At present, carbon emission reduction policies pay more attention to energy technology innovation and green modernization transformation of industrial enterprises, but it should be noted that agricultural carbon emissions are also the main source of carbon emissions.Agricultural carbon emissions account for about 17% of China’s total carbon emissions, and the reduction of agricultural carbon emissions is of great significance to achieve the "double carbon" goal. How to promote agricultural carbon emission reduction and promote agricultural green transformation is an urgent problem to be solved. In recent years, our ecological civilization construction has made great achievements, agricultural ecological civilization construction is an important part of ecological civilization construction, promoting agricultural green development, emission reduction and carbon fixation is of great significance to realize the sustainable development of economy and society. In 2014 and 2015,the construction list of two groups of ecological civilization pilot demonstration zones put forward requirements on agricultural planted crops, cultivated land area, irrigation water and straw recycling and other indicators. Therefore, the construction of ecological civilization will have an impact on agricultural production activities, and thus affect agricultural carbon emissions. The Yangtze River Economic Belt is an important grain producing area in China, and it is also one of the "three major strategies" implemented by the central government.Studying the impact of ecological civilization construction on agricultural carbon emission in the Yangtze River Economic Belt can boost agricultural carbon reduction and sequestration and promote the green transformation of agricultural production mode, which is of great significance for the green and low-carbon sustainable development of agriculture and rural areas. This paper systematically analyzed the effect and mechanism of ecological civilization construction on agricultural carbon emission from theoretical and empirical levels.Firstly, the ideological thread and theoretical basis of ecological civilization construction and agricultural carbon emission reduction were sorted out,the theoretical mechanism of promoting agricultural carbon emission reduction by ecological civilization construction was analyzed, and the theoretical proposition of the relationship between ecological civilization construction and agricultural carbon emission was put forward.Secondly, the agricultural carbon emissions of 108prefecture-level cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt during 2004-2020 were measured, and the spatio-temporal differentiation characteristics of agricultural carbon emissions in the Yangtze River Economic Belt were analyzed from the perspectives of the overall Yangtze River Economic Belt, different regions and prefecture-level cities.Thirdly, the demonstration area of ecological civilization construction was used as a quasi-natural experiment to empirically test the impact of ecological civilization construction on agricultural carbon emissions in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, analyze the heterogeneity of the impact of ecological civilization construction on agricultural carbon emissions, and investigate the mechanism of the effect of ecological civilization construction on agricultural carbon emissions. Finally, based on the theoretical and empirical conclusions, relevant policy recommendations are put forward. The main research conclusions are as follows:(1)The Marxist concept of ecological civilization and Xi Jinping’s thought of ecological civilization are the ideological guidelines for the construction of ecological civilization, and provide the fundamental guidelines for the development of green and low-carbon agriculture.(2)During the sample study period, both total agricultural carbon emissions and per capita agricultural carbon emissions in the Yangtze River Economic Belt increased first and then decreased.Fertilizer is the largest source of agricultural carbon emissions.(3)Agricultural carbon emissions in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River economic belt all increased first and then decreased. The agricultural carbon emissions in the downstream region accounted for the highest proportion, while the agricultural carbon emissions in the upstream region accounted for the smallest proportion. From the perspective of per capita agricultural carbon emissions, per capita agricultural carbon emissions in the upstream region were the smallest and showed an overall upward trend, while per capita agricultural carbon emissions in the middle and downstream regions were larger, but showed an overall fluctuating downward trend. The spatial distribution of total agricultural carbon emission and per capita agricultural carbon emission in the Yangtze River Economic Belt has a small fluctuation range, showing a stable distribution in the direction of "northeast to southwest".(4)The construction of ecological civilization pilot demonstration zone is conducive to improving agricultural production mode, strengthening agricultural ecological environmental protection and practicing the concept of ecological civilization, and has a significant inhibition effect on agricultural carbon emission intensity, and this negative effect has passed the placebo test and the robustness test.(5)Heterogeneity analysis was conducted from regional location, economic development level and urban agglomeration, and it was found that the construction of ecological civilization pilot demonstration zones in different regions had heterogeneity on agricultural carbon emission intensity.(6)The mechanism test shows that the construction of ecological civilization pilot demonstration zone can increase government support, promote green technology innovation and improve information technology level, and then reduce agricultural carbon emission intensity in the Yangtze River Economic Belt.According to the above research conclusions, the proposed policy suggestions include formulating agricultural carbon emission reduction policies according to local conditions, constructing agricultural carbon reduction and emission reduction governance mechanism, promoting agricultural green technology progress, strengthening agricultural and rural information infrastructure construction, and promoting the feedback effect of urbanization on agriculture. |
