In the context of energy transition,Germany and the United States have vigorously developed clean energy, which is representative in the World’s clean energy transition.Taking wind energy, solar energy and other renewable energy as the development core,Germany has issued and revised the Erneubare Energien Gesetz(EEG)for many times, launched the phase out plan of nuclear energy, and put environmental protection in the primary position of energy development. While developing renewable energy, the United States takes nuclear energy and natural gas(including shale gas)as important transitional energy and vigorously develops them, reflecting the political goal of taking energy independence and energy security as the core. This article mainly compares and studies the differences in clean energy transition paths between Germany and the United States and their underlying reasons, with the aim of providing reference for other countries in the World to choose appropriate clean energy transition paths, and thereby promoting the global energy transition process. The article follows the following sequence:Firstly,it elaborates on the definition, characteristics, and background of energy transition, defines the types and scope of clean energy, and sorts out the differences in the goals and paths of clean energy transition between Germany and the United States.Subsequently, the PEST analysis framework was used to analyze the reasons for the differences in the path of clean energy transition between the two countries.Different perspectives were selected from four levels:political, social, technological, and economic. At the political level, the focus of energy development was mainly compared between the two governments. At the social level, the attitudes of the public towards clean energy transition were mainly selected, and at the technical level, the development status of clean energy technology was selected,At the economic level, choose the economic benefits of enterprises, national income levels, and support policies. Finally, based on this, the conclusion is drawn that the development and selection of differentiated clean energy transition paths by Germany and the United States are compatible with their own national conditions.Other countries should learn from the energy transition experience of Germany and the United States and choose clean energy transition paths that match their own development status. At present, the greenhouse gas emissions generated by energy use account for up to 75% of global emissions, which has a profound impact on the development trend of global climate. The transition of clean energy has become a global long-term strategic development direction, and the energy transition of Germany and the United States has strong representativeness and trend characteristics.Exploring the differences and reasons behind the path of clean energy transition between the two countries can help other countries learn from and develop clean energy transition plans and paths that are suitable for their own national conditions, and promote the global process of "Carbon Neutrality".
