The report of the 20 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out: "Accelerating the development of the digital economy and promoting the deep integration of the digital economy and the real economy".In the era of digital economy,it is crucial to attach importance to the development of the digital economy,break through the current policy barriers in the construction of the digital economy ecosystem,fully leverage the institutional advantages in building a modern industrial system,and unleash the effectiveness of digital economy development in controlling urban environmental pollution in China.At present,China is in a critical period of achieving high-quality economic development.As a highly populated and economically dense area,cities are not only the main position to achieve high-quality economic development,but also the main places to cope with the risks of external changes.Therefore,ensuring that the total amount of environmental pollutants in production and operation activities is reduced is the focus of leading the industry to achieve green development.The key resource elements that support the development of the digital economy serve as the engine driving the development of the green economy.By promoting industrial structure upgrading and reducing information exchange costs,it affects social development from multiple dimensions such as ecological construction and economic development.As a major producer,it is crucial to utilize the resource characteristics of digital economy development to alleviate the ecological and environmental protection pressure faced by economic development in order to achieve high-quality economic development.From the perspective of impact mechanism,the digital technology relied on for the development of the digital economy not only enhances the correlation of regional economic activities,but also extends the green added value of enterprise production from a technical perspective.It’s impact on industrial production and operation activities gradually shifts from value reshaping to value creation.It’s also promotes a large number of new business forms and development models,eliminates outdated industries with high pollution characteristics,and promotes new technologies to achieve energy conservation and emission reduction,In order to achieve urban Digital transformation and innovative development.From the perspective of regional inhibition,the development of the digital economy relies on the level of intelligence.The differences in digital infrastructure,human capital,and other factors between regions can lead to differences in the development level of the digital economy in different regions,resulting in regional differences in the impact on environmental pollution.From a spatial perspective,on the one hand,industrial enterprises choose regional transfer to avoid environmental regulations,which directly affects the economic development and ecological construction of the immigration and emigration areas.On the other hand,the knowledge and technology spillovers inherent in the development of the digital economy will create a good environment for cooperation and exchange,forcing enterprises to take the path of green development.Based on the panel data of 284 prefecture level cities in China from 2011 to 2020,a general panel model is constructed to test the impact of digital economy on environmental pollution,and based on the perspective of spatial pattern,a spatial econometric model is constructed to analyze the spatial spillover effect of digital economy on environmental pollution.The results indicate that: Firstly,the development level of China’s digital economy continues to improve,and there is a trend of high development level of digital economy in the eastern region and low development level of digital economy in the central and western regions.The emissions of major environmental pollution show a fluctuating downward trend.Secondly,the digital economy has a significant inhibitory effect on urban environmental pollution in China.Thirdly,there are regional differences in the inhibitory effect of the digital economy on urban environmental pollution in China.Fourthly,there is a significant spatial autocorrelation between the digital economy and environmental pollution,and the inhibitory effect of the digital economy on urban environmental pollution in China has a spatial spillover effect.In order to improve the development level of the digital economy and reduce environmental pollution,it is necessary to strengthen the cultivation of digital technology talents,accelerate the integration of digital economy industry and traditional industry development,and fully leverage the inhibitory effect of digital economy on local environmental pollution.Deepening the radiative driving effect of digital economy on suppressing environmental pollution in neighboring areas.Based on the imbalance of regional development,formulate differentiation strategies and continue to promote the coordinated development of digital economy regions.Increase government support and promote the coordinated development of digital economy and ecological civilization construction.
