As a major carbon emitter in the world,China has faced more severe pressure on carbon emission reduction in recent years. In this regard,China has always adhered to the strategy of technological innovation driven development, emphasizing that technological innovation supports green development. In the development of international trade,China has focused on the common welfare of the people all over the world, adhered to the trade concept of openness, consultation, cooperation and win-win results, and maintained the multilateral trading system. However, the current international environment is complex, and the growth of international trade is uncertain, and enterprises are facing multiple challenges such as technological innovation, structural adjustment and pollution control.Problems such as weak core technology and weak independent innovation capacity are still prominent. These problems are increasingly becoming bottleneck factors restricting carbon emission reduction.More and more studies have explored the relationship between technological innovation, international trade and carbon emissions. The results show that the three are closely related.Technological innovation and international trade have different degrees of impact on carbon emissions. In this context,it is of great practical significance to clarify and coordinate the relationship among China’s carbon productivity, technological innovation and international trade.Exploring the influence mechanism of technological innovation and international trade on carbon emissions is of great significance for achieving the carbon emission reduction goal, promoting the innovative development of trade as well as carrying forward the green development of the economy. This paper empirically studies the dynamic and spatial effects of technological innovation and international trade on carbon emissions.Technological innovation is measured from the perspectives of R&D investment and innovation achievements, and international trade is separated into imports and exports. The impact of technological innovation and international trade on carbon productivity is analyzed from a dynamic and spatial perspective.Firstly, the theory of the relationship between the three is sorted out,and a descriptive analysis is conducted from different perspectives on carbon productivity, technological innovation, and international trade levels across the country and the eastern, central, and western regions from 2005 to 2019.On this basis, empirical research is conducted based on the PVAR model, dynamic panel GMM estimation, and SDM model. The research results indicate that: firstly, there is a significant carbon reduction effect on both technological innovation and export trade nationwide;Secondly, there is heterogeneity in the impact of technological innovation and export trade between regions. From a national perspective, the initial carbon emission reduction effect of technological innovation is not significant. With the improvement and accumulation of innovation level, technological innovation has played a significant carbon emission reduction effect, and the development of export trade has improved the carbon emission status; The development of export trade in the eastern region has a negative impact on carbon emissions reduction; The carbon reduction effect of technological innovation and export trade in the central and western regions is not significant.Thirdly, from a spatial perspective, there is a significant spatial autocorrelation in China’s carbon emissions. The direct effect of technological innovation is significant. The direct effect and spatial spillover effect of export trade are both significant, which is conducive to the improvement of the carbon emission status in the local and neighboring regions.Based on the above conclusions, this paper proposes corresponding policy recommendations from enhancing the technological content of economic growth, deepening trade openness, scientifically improving export policies, and promoting carbon reduction through multiple ways. Each province should strengthen the application of technological innovation in the field of carbon emission reduction, reasonably develop export trade and pay attention to the actual situation of regional development. Also,it is necessary to attach great importance to communication and cooperation with other provinces in carbon emission reduction work, mutually support each other and jointly move towards the goal of carbon emission reduction.
