| Report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China points out that China should accelerate the green transformation of the economic development mode and make efforts to promote high-quality development.Striving to achieve the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutral is a major strategic decision to promote green development in China.Since the"double carbon" goal was proposed, more and more enterprises have started to formulate green development strategies. As important participants in corporate environmental responsibility, voluntary green behaviors by employees are the key to promote corporate green development. Therefore, many companies actively encourage their employees to engage in voluntary green behaviors that contribute to corporate environmental sustainability. However, most existing research has tacitly assumed that voluntary employee green behavior will always naturally lead to positive outcomes, and therefore has focused on the antecedents, while neglecting research on the effects of voluntary employee green behavior. In addition, although enterprises are one of the key actors in addressing environmental problems, the economic, social, and environmental sustainable development cannot rely on the efforts of enterprises alone, but requires the concerted efforts of the whole society, from government to enterprises to families,to make their own efforts to achieve the green strategic goals. Therefore, the "green spillover effect" is getting more and more attention, that is,whether individuals who act in an environmentally friendly way will choose to continue to act in an environmentally friendly way in subsequent specific matters, time, and situations.Based on the above realistic and theoretical background, this study proposes a research model of the spillover effect of voluntary employee green behavior on household green behavior, and proposes competing hypotheses about the spillover effect of voluntary employee green behavior based on the self-perception theory and moral licensing theory.Specifically, according to self-perception theory, voluntary employee green behavior will further promote household green behavior by increasing pro-environmental self-identity;according to moral licensing theory, voluntary employee green behavior will reduce household green behavior by increasing moral credits. In addition, this study proposes perceived leader green support as a moderating variable to explore the boundary conditions of the spillover effect of voluntary employee green behavior on household green behavior. This study used questionnaires to collect data from employees of several companies in multiple industries in Shandong,China, and finally obtained 428 valid questionnaires, and analyzed the sample data using Mplus8.1 and SPSS26 software. The results of the study showed that, first, voluntary employee green behavior has a positive spillover effect on household green behavior.Second,pro-environmental self-identity mediates the relationship between voluntary employee green behavior and household green behavior.Third, voluntary green behavior motivates employees to accumulate moral credits, but the negative effect of moral credits on household green behavior hypothesized in this study is not significant.Fourth, perceived leader green support positively moderated the relationship between voluntary employee green behavior and pro-environmental self-identity and moral credits. In addition, perceived leader green support further positively moderated the indirect relationship between voluntary employee green behavior and household green behavior through pro-environmental self-identity.The findings of the study provide references and insights for academic research and management practice to comprehensively understand and utilize the positive effects of voluntary employee green behavior to achieve sustainable development. |
