Batik is one of Indonesia’s traditional plant-resistant dyeing techniques.Indonesian batik techniques, tools, pattern creation development and related culture have been designated as Masterpiece of the Oral an Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO since October 2,2009.In Asia the Tang Dynasty in China(618-907)and the Nara period in Japan(645-794)and India also have a long tradition of batik technique. In the process of making batik using the wax-resistant dyeing technique,a tool must used to help apply the wax liquid to the surface of the fabric. The tool is called Canting(wax pot)in Indonesia. The head of the wax pot is made of copper sheet with good thermal conductivity, which can accommodate and maintain the temperature of the wax. Then the handle is made of bamboo or wood. The handles are connected to form a complete paint wax tool. Each region with batik art culture has different shape of batik tools,as well as wax painting methods and corresponding cultural traditions.Through the discussion and comparative analysis of the history and tool characteristics of batik in Yogyakarta,Indonesia and Gouizhou,China,it can be seen that regional culture and social culture are the main factors that trigger and create the characteristics of horse and Chinese batik tools and art.Design is the creative process of planning and conceiving things on terms of appearance and function.Design can be pictures, patterns, patterns or drawings, usually with functional, aesthetic, and other aspects in mind, and are derived from research, thinking, brainstorming, and data source from pre-existing designs.Based on the comparison of Indonesian and Chinese batik tools and artistic characteristics, the author uses the method of cross-design of the two cultures to carry out innovative designs that meet the needs of modern life, trying to explore innovative ways of cross-design between different cultures.
