Our country is in a new stage of development, and the digital economy has become a vital engine for enhancing the quality and efficiency of social development,as well as being thoroughly integrated into a wide range of social activities. The application of emerging digital technologies in the energy system, such as big data and cloud computing, can not only save energy, reduce emissions, and improve energy efficiency, but it can also stimulate technological innovations in decarbonization and negative carbonization,as well as promote the complementarity of digitization and greening. The driving effect of the digital economy in regional development is becoming more and more significant. It is a key breakthrough in promoting low-carbon technology innovation and hastening industry transformations. It is also an important opportunity for the country to complete the "dual carbon" goal and the region to achieve low-carbon development. Therefore,it is necessary to explore the influence relationship and action path between the digital economy and regional carbon emissions.Based on the era background of a digital power and the national "dual carbon" goal, this paper takes 30 provinces from 2011 to 2019 as a research sample, uses the entropy method to construct a digital economy measurement system, analyzes the spatiotemporal evolution characteristics of the digital economy level and carbon emissions in each province, empirically test the direction, internal mechanism, spatial spillover and regional heterogeneity of the impact of digital economy development on regional carbon emissions by constructing a fixed effect model,a mediating effect model, and a spatial Dubin model, with a view to providing insights into the regional carbon emissions in the new development stage. The region will explore the realization of low-carbon transformation, and further enrich the theoretical framework of digital economy and carbon emissions. The research conclusions show that:(1)The development of digital economy and regional carbon emissions have prominent differences in time and space evolution, the development process and status of digital economy in the East,China and the West show clear regional differences, and the carbon emissions levels of the northern and southern provinces are also quite different;(2)The digital economy can significantly inhibit the growth of regional carbon emissions. The development of the digital economy can use the four intermediary transmission pathways of energy structure, energy intensity, economic development and population size to affect regional carbon emissions.Among them, the intermediary effect of energy intensity is particularly obvious;(3)The development of the digital economy will have a negative influence on carbon emissions in surrounding areas while restraining the increase in carbon emissions in the region, according to a study of geographical spillover effects;(4)The development of digital economy in different regions will inhibit carbon emissions. There are differences in their effects, with the greatest inhibitory impact on the western region and the most obvious spatial spillover effect. At the same time, the impact of digital economy development on carbon emissions in resource-based provinces is much greater than that in non-resource-based provinces.Based on the above research, the suggestions are:(1)Pay attention to the construction of digital infrastructure, expand the digital industry integration model, and fully release the digital dividend.Simultaneously, relying on new digital technologies to minimize fossil energy consumption, boost industrial transformation and upgrade, develop new energy and new technologies, and support regional development towards green and low-carbon transformation;(2)Pay attention to the spatial spillover effects of the digital economy and carbon emissions, rationally plan the social digitalization process and industrial layout, improve regional cooperation and exchanges, and work together to promote low-carbon development;(3)Different regions should accurately grasp their own positioning, dynamically adjust the industrial layout, reduce the development gap between regions, fully exploit the benefits of the digital economy in terms of energy structure optimization and energy consumption efficiency improvement, and encourage low-carbon,green growth based on local criteria. |
