| Indexable insert drills(i.e.short hole drills)have a wide range of applications in modern hole machining due to their low drilling force,high machining efficiency and low cost per piece.Due to the asymmetric structure of inserts in the tool body,radial imbalance is prone to occur during drilling,which often leads to the reduction of tool machining life and workpiece quality.At present,there are few studies on indexable insert drills at domestic and abroad.In this study,we conduct a systematic study on indexable insert drills from three aspects:cutting force,chip deformation and tool wear.The main work is as follows.Firstly,this work researches the drilling mechanism of indexable insert drill,analyzes the force on the cutting edge based on the Oxley shear model,calculates the cutting key angle by vector matrix method,and establishes the time domain model of cutting force of indexable insert drill by using calculus integration method.At the same time,the cutting force experiment of indexable insert drill was carried out to verify the accuracy of cutting force model,to investigate the effect of cutting parameters and tool angle on cutting force,and to analyze the fluctuation range of radial cutting force of indexable insert drill.Secondly,chip deformation was studied and the parameter of chip equivalent thickness hec was analyzed,the larger its value the more likely the chip is to fracture.At the same time,the difference in chip deformation between the inner and periphera chips under the asymmetric structural characteristics of the indexable insert drill was analyzed.Experiments on chip deformation of indexable insert drills were carried out with high-speed camera to compare the effects of straight-edge and wave-edge insert geometry and cutting parameters on chip deformation in and out of short hole drills,both in terms of chip formation process and morphology.Finally,according to the cutting characteristics of the center and peripheral inserts of the indexable insert drill,the wear mechanism of the inserts of the indexable insert drill is analyzed;the insert wear experiments of the indexable insert drill are carried out to compare and analyze the edge wear,edge breakage morphology and cutting force changes of inserts with different geometric shapes.The research work in this study has certain application value for the structural design of indexable insert drills and the optimization of insert structure performance. |
