This paper explores the promoting effect and the influence machanism of FDI on the ecological efficiency in the process of marketization, which is conducive to objectively analyze the role FDI plays in the regional imbalance of environmental efficiency, and thus to provide feasible suggestions for the government. This paper measures the regional ecological efficiency of Chinese 30 provinces(excluding Tibet)from 2007-2015 by using Malmquist-Luenberger index, and further decomposing it into two components, one measuring for efficiency change(EFFCH)and the other one accounting for technology change(TECH).It was found that ecological efficiency of the eastern region surpasses the other two regions. The total efficiency of the central region is stable around the national average level, and represents a running and chasing competition with the western region. And then by applying the fixed effect spatial lag panel model, with ecological efficiency as dependent variable and the lagged term,as well as introducing the interaction term of FDI and the market index, this paper explores the ecological effect of FDI in the process of marketization. The empirical results show that the main effect of FDI and marketization can significantly improve the quality of local ecological environment. But this promoting effect of FDI would be reduced as the development of the market. And this result remains the same when considering different regions, although it turns out at different effect levels.when considering the endogenous problem and the potential spatial interaction between the core variales, this paper establishes the spatial simultaneous equation model, and finds out the the facts that FDI can not only directly affect ecological efficiency, but also indirectly plays a role by influencing regional marketization. In this process, there exsits differences in the long-term and short-term effects. The inflow of short-term FDI is not conducive to local marketization, while in the long run the accumulation of FDI shows a positive effect.
