| China is currently at a critical stage of promoting the integration of advanced manufacturing and modern service industries.As a key point and breakthrough in promoting the integration of the two industries,the development of production-oriented service industry plays a crucial role in promoting the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry.Therefore,understanding the inherent relationship between the development level of the production-oriented service industry and the efficiency of the manufacturing industry is of great significance for promoting the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry.In this paper,we examine the development level of the production-oriented service industry from three dimensions: scale,efficiency,and structure,and use it as the core explanatory variable to represent the TFP index of the manufacturing industry’s efficiency obtained by the DEA-Malmquist index method as the dependent variable.We select the macroeconomic panel data of 26 provinces(autonomous regions)in China from 2008 to 2021 and use the panel linear regression model to empirically study the impact of the development level of the production-oriented service industry on the efficiency of the manufacturing industry.Secondly,considering that there may be a nonlinear relationship between the development scale of the production-oriented service industry and the efficiency of the manufacturing industry,we further construct a threshold regression model and use the development structure of the productionoriented service industry as the threshold variable for research.The empirical results show that:(1)The development level of the three dimensions of the production-oriented service industry is positively correlated with the efficiency of the manufacturing industry,and the impact of the efficiency dimension on the efficiency of the manufacturing industry is the greatest.(2)Low-end productionoriented service industry mainly relies on improving efficiency level to promote the growth of manufacturing industry efficiency;the improvement of the scale,efficiency and structure of high-end production-oriented service industry will have positive effects on the manufacturing industry.In particular,optimizing the development structure has a greater effect on improving the efficiency of the manufacturing industry.(3)There are two thresholds for the development structure of productive service industry.When the development structure of productive service industry is at a lower or higher level,the expansion of its development scale will promote the efficiency of manufacturing industry,but when the development structure is between the two thresholds,the change of its development scale has no significant impact on the efficiency of manufacturing industry. |
