Modern communication systems transmit information through radio waves,which are radiated and received by antennas.With the increase of working frequency,the traditional microstrip patch antenna can not adapt to the demand of millimeter band due to high loss and low radiation efficiency.Dielectric resonator antenna is considered as a substitute for traditional low gain metal antenna because of its advantages of small size,low weight,high gain,wide bandwidth and easy excitation.Wireless communication technology has developed into the fifth generation(5G).This paper aims to construct an antenna with high radiation efficiency that can be applied to millimeter wave band,and optimize its performance through u-shaped microstrip line feed structure,defective ground structure,hollow structure and slot.The main work of this is paper as follows:(1)The theory of dielectric resonator antenna is introduced,such as basic performance parameters of antenna,definition and classification of dielectric resonator antenna,feeding mode and circular polarization technology.(2)A cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna fed by U-shaped microstrip line is designed.The antenna has good performance parameters through the optimized structure such as defective ground structure,and the antenna works in the millimeter wave planning band.Simulation results with HFSS software show that the maximum gain of the antenna is 7.4dBi,the operating frequency is 42.5GHz,the frequency band is 41.8-43.4GHz,and the relative bandwidth is3.76%.(3)A cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna with hollow structure is designed.The circular polarization of the antenna is realized by designing four irregular rectangular slots with the same size on the upper part of the cylindrical dielectric resonator.The simulation results show that the antenna achieves circular polarization performance,the axial ratio bandwidth is 15.3%,the antenna operates in the band of 47.5-54.7GHz,and the gain can reach 8.644 dBi.(4)A cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna with stacked structure is designed.The antenna is composed of two cylindrical dielectric resonators of different sizes stacked together and fed by a microstrip-gap feed structure.Compared with the traditional antenna,the antenna has better performance parameters by using two layers of dielectric plates with different parameters and embedded cylindrical dielectric resonator.The simulation results show that the antenna works in two frequency bands,23.39Ghz-24.89 GHz and 28.85Ghz-30.84 GHz respectively,the antenna gain is up to 7.958 dBi,and the antenna works in TE113 mode.
