As satellite constellation expands in size and functions more complexly, transmitting data directly through a ground station with a single satellite cannot meet the demand. Therefore, the establishment of inter-satellite links is the trend of satellite technology development, and in order to ensure inter-satellite links operating normally,a reliable and efficient network transmission protocol is needed. The traditional terrestrial network transmission protocol cannot operate normally when dealing with the frequent interruption of inter-satellite links, high bit error rate and bandwidth limitation. At present, there is no uniform and reliable standard for the improvement of traditional protocols. The Delay/Disruption-Tolerant Network(DTN)adopts a “store-and-forward”transmission mechanism to add a layer under the application layer to implement non-volatile storage of data.Based on the characteristics of DTN,this paper applies it to inter-satellite links, and analyzes and simulates it to evaluate its applicability in inter-satellite links. The main work of this paper is summarized as follows:1.Analyzed the environment and characteristics of inter-satellite links, and studied the traditional network transmission protocol and its improvement schemes.2.In-depth study of the DTN protocol stack to analyze its applicability in inter-satellite links.3.Using the network simulation tool OPNET Modeler to realize the modeling and simulation of the DTN architecture in inter-satellite links, and compare its performance with the traditional protocol. The results show that DTN can significantly improve the transmission performance of the network, reduce the delay, and improve the data arrival rate of the packet and the effective throughput of the network.4.The performance of DTN under different transmission conditions was analyzed, and the factors affecting DTN performance and the constraints on node storage space were obtained.Through the research, simulation and analysis of DTN,this paper verifies the applicability of DTN in inter-satellite links and provides technical support for the engineering application of DTN in inter-satellite links.
