Research On Su Shixue’s Philology Thought

Su Shixue was a well-known scholar in Guangxi during the Qing Dynasty,and he was known as the "Tengzhou Talented Scholar".He left a collection of poems on the poetry circle "The Poems of Baomolou",and his poems are listed as one of the "Fourteen Western Guangdong".In the field of textual research,he has authored the two books "Yaoshan Bihua" and "Correcting Mozi’s Errors",which conducted in-depth and rigorous textual research on ancient historical events and hundreds of classics and achieved outstanding achievements.In particular,his book "Correcting Mozi’s Errors" was regarded by Liang Qichao as one of the most authoritative achievements in the collation of "Mozi" in modern times.In the process of researching historical facts and philosophers’ Hundred Schools of Books,Su had his own unique research methods and principles,such as the use of the research method of sub-historical mutual verification and the research principle of insisting on keeping the truth in recent ancient times and not blindly following the opinions of others.Studying and summarizing Su’s academic thoughts is not only a supplement to the research on the history of ancient academic thoughts in Guangxi,but also a necessary work for learning from the achievements of the ancients’ academic thoughts and advancing the current academic exploration.This article will discuss the academic thoughts of Su Shixue from the following three chapters:The first chapter mainly introduces Su Shixue’s life experience;brief history of his works and the background of his time;in order to analyze the factors forming Su Shixue’s academic thoughts.The second chapter summarizes Su’s achievements in textual research,including the collation of the textual results of "Yaoshan Bihua" and "Correcting Mozi’s Errors".In order to make Su’s test evidence results more intuitive and comprehensive,the author compares some of Su’s test results with scholars of the same generation or different eras to illustrate Su’s achievements in textual research.At the same time,it also discussed Su’s research methods and principles in textual research.The third chapter discusses the characteristics of Su’s academic thoughts and his evaluation of his academic thoughts.His bold questioning and courage to seek truth still have the significance of reference and encouragement for today’s scholars.This article attempts to discuss the academic achievements of Su Shixue from the collation of the textual research,using empirical and comparative methods to explore the academic achievements of Su Shixue,and then strive to have a more intuitive and overall evaluation of the academic thought of Su Shixue.
