This research takes the “Guardian” news report on the Sino-US trade war as the research object, with a view to studying its discourse strategy and exploring the relationship between the underlying discourse and the social environment, media system, and ideology. In the context of continuous growth and depth,cross-cultural communication and national image have always been an important topic in the field of international communication. At the same time, the rise of China and the continuous improvement of international practices have aroused fear in the United States and the Western world. On March23,2018,the President of the United States gradually signed a trade memorandum with China, imposing tariffs, restricting Chinese companies and a series of unilateral actions, formally provoking a Sino-US trade dispute.Friction, destructiveness, influence, and the degree of world attention it arouses all constitute an important part of international news discourse. As the “other”outside the event participants-Britain,the news value contained in mainstream media reports and event cognition are of great significance to the integration of national image and discourse.Recently,Britain has been affected by Brexit, and Sino-British diplomacy has gradually stepped from the “golden age” to the“dual-faced era” in which Britain has become more and more prominent in China.Because of its authority and selectivity, the British“Guardian” has a certain influence in the British and even the world media, and its reporting strategy on the Sino-US trade war has research value. Therefore, under the influence of both sides in the Sino-British relationship and the US-British relationship, how does the UK view the Sino-US trade friction? In order to solve the above problems, this research uses discourse analysis as the research path, takes Fairclough's text, discourse, and three-dimensional model of social practice as the theoretical basis, supplemented by the content analysis of text quantitative statistics.Trade war reports are the research object and text source.Through retrieval and screening,128 news texts from March 23,2018 to December31,2019 were finally conducted discourse research. Now,first, raise the audience's critical and dialectical interpretation awareness of media discourses such as news in a complex information environment.Second,an in-depth analysis of the reasons for the “Guardian” discourse strategy will help a deeper understanding of the world, especially the third,in terms of the types of disputes involving China,it will help to refute misunderstandings in a more targeted manner based on the international communication environment,To express a position on disputes, and to resort to justice to prejudice,so as to reach a consensus on the advantages of international discourse power and international public opinion. The thesis is divided into five parts. The introduction part is composed of research background, research significance, literature review, research content, and research methods. The first chapter analyzes the content of the “Sino-US Trade War” report of the Guardian with quantitative statistics, starting from the six levels of the number of reports, genre, theme, layout, source and tendency. The second chapter analyzes the corpus from Fairclough's textual dimension, and learns from the two aspects of vocabulary use and text transitivity. The Guardian's overall understanding of the “China-US Trade War” event and its role in shaping China,The choice of different discourse texts in the image of the United States and the United States.Chapter 3,in the discourse practice dimension, starts with the intertextuality of the text, the source of quotation and the way of reporting, and analyzes the issue of the “Sino-US trade war” reported by The Guardian. The position of China and the United States and its own at the time was expressed as: the United States deliberately contained China's rise and imposed economic sanctions;China made an all-out counterattack to contend with the United States;Britain described itself as the defender of free trade and the world economic order.Chapter Four From Society Start with the practical dimension to find out the social reality corresponding to the practice of discourse. The “fuzzy” strategy between Sino-US criticism, checks and balances and cooperation between China and the United States embodied in the practice of discourse in The Guardian is to trade with the United Kingdom in China and the United States. The disputes between seeking to maximize the interests of the country correspond. However, the “imaginative” prejudice against China's political and economic image mixed in the practice of such discourse is not good for China's image, and even slanderous.China's media should target it To formulate communication strategies sexually and actively grasp the initiative of international discourse, international audiences should also improve their media literacy in critical and dialectical interpretation.
