So far, medium and far-infrared light are the most widely used infrared band, especially the far-infrared light, which has been used in defense and civilian. The near-infrared wavelengths between visible light and mid-range infrared light have strong penetrating power and high-contrast quality in the imaging. We can use nearly infrared imaging to make up for some of the shortcomings of visible and far-infrared bands in military. So near infrared scene simulation is very important in the test of weapon preparation. In view of this, this paper explores a method to simulate near-infrared images with visible images.1.Research on optical properties of targets and backgrounds: a few more typical things such as plants、water、soil、buildings、sky and etc. Each material has inherent characteristics in the near infrared band.By analyzing the reflection, transmission, scattering and other characteristics of target material to determine which simulation model it is applicable to.2.A model for the conversion of the grayscale of the visible-near-infrared image considering atmospheric and imaging systems was established. The solar radiation through the atmosphere was calculated by MODTRAN4;the near-infrared camera was calibrated by MODTRAN4 for correct relations between incident radiation and grayscale of image, and the gamma correction of the image is done based on the data of the radiation calibration.3.In order to achieve precise simulation and make the simulation image more real and natural,we need to use image segmentation to complete the material classification. In this paper,an image segmentation method based on mean-shift is studied to distinguish the different materials in natural images. The method give various materials a clear segmentation boundary, and reduce the error of the grayscale conversion of visible image in the simulation process.4.The simulation model is used to simulate the single target and complex scene, and analyze the simulation results. Then we need to analyze the simulation error and propose the corresponding solutions.Simulation results show that the real and natural simulation images can be obtained quickly by using the method based on visible image in this paper.
