With the advent of digital information age,some industries have adopted the complex information system digital interface for task of monitoring,communication and cooperation gradually,such as military,nuclear,aerospace,etc.However,the unreasonable design of complex information system greatly increases the visual fatigue and cognitive load of operators in the work of information searching and confirming.Therefore,it is in great practical significance to evaluate and optimize the complexity of complex information system's digital interface.Traditional eye movement evaluation combines with the three visual diagrams provided by the eye tracker which cannot quickly explain the complexity of interface information and the specific factors that lead to the complexity of information presentation.In this paper,the qualitative and quantitative relationship between eye movement data and search task interface complexity and its influencing factors was focused,and the mapping relationship between eye movement data and interface complexity was gotten.Through the research on the existing eye movement data visualization,richer and more intuitive eye movement data visualization schemes were designed to help the design evaluators better evaluate the interface complexity through the eye movement data visualization analysis.This paper was carried out with the following three portions:The first portion is the basic theoretical research which contains two aspects of work:(1)Research on user interface complexity:the definition,influencing factors and assessment methods of user interface complexity are clarified through literature research.(2)Research on eye movement behavior data:for the purpose of interface evaluation,this part of the work sorted out the applicable evaluation indicators of specific eye movement data and formed a set of available indicators through the induction and integration of the original eye movement data and its derived data.The second portion consists design method research and design example construction:(1)Study on visual forms of eye movement data:some existing visual representations of eye movement data and their effects were studied,and the V-DMEMD model for visual forms of eye movement data design and the current visual form gap was subsequently proposed.(2)Based on the theory of eye movement data visualization,innovative eye movement data visualization forms are constructed,such as:retrospective saccadic visualization(prayer flags gragh),eye movement speed visualization(sailing boat/tangent gragh),pupil data visualization(Sun Halo gragh,pupil K-line gragh),etc.In the third portion,the experimental study which includes two steps of work is focused:(1)Design and verification experiment of situation map interface complexity and its influencing factors:Based on the search task in situation maps,the factors that affect the interface complexity of the situation map were abstracted and 198 groups of experimental materials were drawn.Combined with the subjective scores of experimental participants and interviews,the experimental data was analyzed and 45 groups of experimental materials were obtained finally.Then,the contribution degree to different factors which influences the interface complexity was further explored.(2)Study on the relationship between eye movement data and the interface complexity of search task:combined with experimental materials obtained in the experiment 1,the qualitative and quantitative relationship between 26*20*45 groups of different types of eye movement data and the interface complexity was explored through traditional data chart,new eye movement data visual analysis and statistical data analysis.A set of eye movement metric usage methods with pertinence to evaluate the interface complexity of search task was formed.Through these two experiments,the design key points of situation map search task interface,the quantitative and qualitative mapping relationship between eye movement metrics and interface complexity and its influencing factors were clarified.In this paper,based on the combination of basic theoretical study,design method study,the new visual forms of eye movement data which is not easy to display were designed.Taking the search behavior on the situation map interface as the research case,the relationship between eye movement data and interface complexity was studied qualitatively and quantitatively by traditional data chart,new eye movement data visual analysis and statistical data analysis.From the data and visual analysis layer,more systematic and intuitive eye movement data usage methodology was provided for the interface design and evaluation personnel.Then,open design opinions of situation map search task interface were put forward.In the end,a minimization prototype for visual analysis of eye movement data was designed.
