In a traditional operating room or intensive care unit,there are different kinds of medical devices which equipped with unique protocol and packaged data.How to hide the differences of these underlying medical devices,parse different protocols and formated data,and achieve unified device management and data processing,is of great significance for the deep mining and intelligent application of medical data.Existing data parsing technology only supports a single type of medical communication protocol,and applies to a single type of medical equipment.Management and configuration of multiple types of equipment is not supported,nor does it support the data storage and backup.At present,the central monitoring system in hospitals only transfers the pictures of the monitors which come from the same manufacturer and does not parse or process data from those devices.HL7 protocols and serial communication protocols are wildly used in medical devices.Common gateway interface(CGI)is the interface standard of external applications(CGI programs)and Web servers.Basing on the common medical devices and IoT sensors in operating rooms or wards,this paper proposes a new unified medically oriented IoT gateway which can be adapted to a variety of medical devices and analyze different medical devices by the using of CGI related technology and parsing of HL7 and serial communication protocols.The gateway can hide the differences of hardware interface,the differences of communication protocols,and the diversity of data types of the underlying medical equipment.It can also provide the data stream and video stream of different devices in the ward.So,the gateway can be used to implement remote real-time monitoring for the operating room or ward.Three aspects should be mainly considered for the design and implementation of the gateway:the hardware design of the gateway itself,the design of the interface protocol for the access of the external terminals,and the design of the underlying information system.Therefore,the main work of the paper includes three aspects:1)Hardware design of the gatewayBased on the scenario in which the gateway is used to support the connection of multiple types of medical devices,the hardware architecture and interface of the gateway are briefly designed.The gateway can be connected by different devices and provide hardware support for the deployment of protocols and information systems with better performance.2)Design of interface protocol of the gatewaySince the gateway needs to provide device and data access interface for external terminals,a multiple device data share protocol based on multi-device management and multi-protocol analysis is proposed.The protocol is deployed on the gateway and is the interaction protocol between the external terminals and the gateway.By using this protocol,external terminals can access gateway and underlying medical devices.The gateway can then extract and construct configuration parameters to access the data of underlying medical devices.After that,the gateway can also return the results to the external terminals.The external terminals can interact with the gateway directly through the standardized protocol,ignoring the analysis process of medical communication protocol which is deployed on the underlying medical device.The applicability of the gateway and the performance of the management and data access of the underlying device are all improved.3)Design of information system of gatewayTo provide the support of information system for the proposed medical communication protocol,a medical data fusion system based on multi-device management and multi-protocol analysis is designed and implemented.The system can manage and configure different medical devices and handle their data by parsing their corresponding protocols.At the same time,the system provides automatic adaptation and analysis of the protocols which have multiple types and versions for the underlying medical devices.The system can also provide fused data stream from multiple devices or the information and data of single device.Experimental results show that the gateway can be connected with different kinds of medical devices and parse their corresponding protocols.It can also be accessed by external terminals using the designed protocol and handle the data from those devices.By parsing devices and fusing medical data,the gateway can also provide real-time monitoring data of the operating room or ward for external terminals.
