The Reproduction And Consumption Of Rural Life In The Short Video Landscape

Country life,an important writing subject,has been existing in different media contexts since ancient China.What's to be pictured and how it's done are interfered by various elements such as writing style,narrator,economy or even politics.By analyzing the most popular mirrored images of the village at one stage through these contexts,we may have a glimpse of the social status behind it.This paper takes Li Ziqi 's short video as the object,by applying spectacle theory,combined with text analysis,attempting to explain the reproduction characteristics of the rural life.Ethnography and interview methods are also used in this paper to reveal the impacts that her videos have on her followers' lives.In the five-part layout of this essay,the introduction covers the research background,the current state,the approaches applied.The first chapter is based on the different forces involved in the video production process in chronological order and the concentration shifts phasing over time.Chapter 2 tries to interpret the cultural symbols in the audio contexts by using cultural research methods.The third and fourth chapter concentrates on Li Ziqi 's followers,the influences and the possible explanation of spectacle patterns.The conclusion section is to summarize the research and to self-reflect.The study's found that the video narrator has undergone an intervention process from personal to capital to authorities.Her focus on the reproduction has also changed accordingly.For various reasons,reproduction of country life was pictured from“wasteland ",then as " pastoral land ",and finally as “homeland".But that was somehow drifted away from reality and ended up as a pile-up of segmented and virtualized popular aesthetics symbols as business gimmicks and “cultural colonization ” for commercial purpose.But undeniably,Li defines and lives the ideal version of dreamed life for the younger generation of middle-class,soothing the anxiety,giving them an alternative of retreat from brutal reality with cultural resistance,and allowing the viewers to endow a new meaning with their daily routines.
