A Research On How The Supplement Of "Northwest Culture Daily" Presents Xi'an City Culture(1931-1937)

In the 1930 s,Xi'an,which suffered from war and disasters,began to enter a golden period of political,economic and cultural development.In this period of Xi'an,a new look emerged in all aspects of society.One of the performances was the upsurge in newspaper reporting during this period."Northwest Culture Daily" as one of the most influential newspapers in Xi'an in the 1930 s was born at this time.The supplement of "Northwest Culture Daily" was deeply influenced by the city culture.It not only reflected the daily life of the city,but also lead the city culture through the construction of social public issues.It is an important material for studying the city culture of Xi'an.This article focuses on the the supplement of "Northwest Culture Daily".This article adopts the method of text analysis and combines a large amount of historical materials,from the social situation which the "Northwest Culture Daily" grew,the development of the newspaper,the reporter's practice,the impact of supplements on city life,and the construction of supplements on social and public issues,set out to explore the interactive relationship between the supplement of "Northwest Culture Daily" and the city culture of Xi'an.The study found that anti-aggression,survival and modernization were the themes of the urban development of Xi'an during this period,and also the themes of the city culture of Xi'an and the supplement of "Northwest Culture Daily".The supplements show the life of all classes in the city.While people enjoyed new materials and experienced modern life,the vulnerable groups in the city were the other side of urban development.The victims and rickshaw drivers were valued by reporters.At the same time,the city's entertainment tended to be diversified,and the competition for new and old entertainment reflected the complex picture of tradition and modernity.As a part of the newspaper,the supplement was also an open cultural space.The supplement of "Northwest Culture Daily" connecting intellectuals and the public,became a platform for women to fight for their rights,discussing urban public health,and making patriotic remarks.While the supplements reflected the appearance of the city,they also promoted and lead the development of the city and city culture.The supplement of "Northwest Culture Daily" constructed and displayed the city culture and life of Xi'an from different angles,to a certain extent,promoted the change of people's concepts in Xi'an,and presented the diversity of city culture.The "Northwest Culture Daily" supplements were important way to study the city culture of Xi'an in 1930 s.
