The college entrance examination system,as an admission examination system for selecting new students in China's colleges and universities, undertakes the dual task of selecting talents for the country and testing the results of basic education. The implementation of the "Opinions on Deepening the Reform of Examination and Enrollment System"(hereinafter referred to as the new college entrance examination),which has been gradually implemented in China since 2014,has broken the original situation of "separation of arts and science" in high school and changed the subject status of geography in the original "large literature" combination, which makes the development of geography face new opportunities and challenges. The new college entrance examination system has broken down the situation of "arts and science" in high school, and changed the status of geography in the original "large literature" portfolio. The study of the combination of subjects chosen by high school students and the analysis of the factors influencing the choice of geography by high school students are important references for the implementation of the new college entrance examination policy and the improvement of the status of geography. However, the existing studies mostly stay in the study of the selection factors of subjects such as physics, history and biology, and there are fewer studies on the influencing factors of taking geography;and there are even fewer empirical studies on the influencing factors of taking geography for high school students in different economic development level regions, school levels, school nature, grades and dominant subjects. The paper uses questionnaires, interviews, principal component analysis, independent sample t-test and other methods to study the influence of college undergraduate enrollment major requirements on taking geography, analyze the willingness of high school students to take subjects under the new college entrance examination model, reveal the influencing factors of high school students taking geography at different levels of schooling, and propose countermeasures for different stakeholders to enhance the willingness of high school students to take geography. The findings of the study are as follows.(1)The influence of undergraduate major requirements on the selection of geography.Among the undergraduate majors in colleges and universities, the first choice of "physics" can be applied to more than 97%of the major points, and the first choice of "history" can only be applied to about 52% of the major points;among the re-election requirements,"no subject requirement " No subject requirements " can be applied for more than 80% of the professional points," must choose 1 " limited to the requirements of the professional points accounted for about 10%," 2choose 1 " limited to the requirements of the professional points accounted for about 9%," 2 must choose The number of major points with "2 compulsory" requirements is less than 5%.Among the re-election requirements,"optional geography" can be applied to a wide range of undergraduate majors, and "limited geography" is less;geography science majors have higher requirements for geography subjects, followed by literature and management majors that have a greater demand for optional geography.(2)About the willingness of high school students to take geography under the new college entrance examination model. The number of "geography" is the second most popular subject, accounting for 54.78% of the total number of students who took it.The most popular combinations are "large literature and large science","two sciences and one literature",and "two languages and one science" with "history".The number of students who took the combination of "History" was low overall.(3)Factors influencing high school students' willingness to take geography. The factors influencing high school students to take geography in descending order are interest and subject practicality(29.86%)> social groups(26.45%)> their own learning base and its effectiveness(21.50%)> professional selection requirements and admission rate(15.69%)> teachers' charisma and their subject marketing(14.31%).Among schools in different economic development level zones, students in economically average zones are slightly less influenced by teachers' charisma and their subject marketing than in economically better zones.Among schools of different levels of schooling, students in unclassified schools were most influenced by their own learning base and effectiveness, with the rest being provincial 3,provincial 1 and provincial2 schools in that order.Among schools of different schooling nature, students in public schools are slightly more influenced by social groups than private schools.Among students of different genders, male students are more influenced by their own learning base and effectiveness and social groups than female students.Among students of different achievement levels, students with upper grades were most influenced by their own learning base and effectiveness, while the rest were in the order of upper middle, middle, lower middle and lower grades.Among students with different dominant subjects, being good at geography is most influenced by their own learning foundation and efficacy as well as major selection requirements and admission rates.(4)To address the influencing factors of geography selection for high school students, the countermeasures to enhance the willingness of high school students to take geography are proposed for different stakeholders, respectively: colleges and universities should strengthen the leading role of talent selection, strengthen the fit analysis of undergraduate admission majors and application combinations, and increase the requirements of cold selection combinations.Secondary schools should improve the optional examination scheme and highlight the status of geography;optimize the teachers' strength to meet different optional examination demands;strengthen home-school collaboration and enhance the publicity of the new college entrance examination policy.Teachers should change their teaching concepts and implement students' needs;optimize the content of geography special courses to stimulate students' interests.Students should strengthen their self-cognition and explore their own advantages;improve their ability to obtain information from all sides.
