AP Physics,as a subject with a high five-point rate in the world, occupies an important position in the AP course.Among them, the chapter of rigid body rotation is one of the most difficult and top priority points in the course, and is also required for the AP exams. However, due to too many physical concepts, laws, models and problems in this chapter,it poses certain challenges for both students' learning and teachers' teaching. As a significant way of thinking, the analogy method is often a guide to break through the predicament. It is a logical reasoning method based on the sameness or similarities between two types of objects,so that they might have same or similar properties in other aspects. There are undoubtedly many similarities between the rigid body rotation and the particle translation motion. The method of analogy teaching is applied to the teaching of the chapter of rigid body rotation of the AP physics course in this paper, and two international classes in grade eleven in Zhejiang Province are used as samples. The knowledge points of the rigid body rotation are classified by analogy, from four aspects: physical concept, physical law, knowledge network and problemsolving steps. And exemplified the practical example of analogy teaching in the rotation knowledge point of AP physics course. This paper attempts to apply the analogy method to the teaching of rotation chapters, with the purpose of setting up a scaffold between the old and new knowledge, effectively reducing the learning difficulty of students, promoting the understanding of rotation concepts and laws, and cultivating students' logical thinking. We find, teaching by analogy can effectively reduce the difficulty for students to learn knowledge points of rotation chapters, and effectively promote students' understanding of the concept of rotation.
