Optics curriculum plays an important role in physics teaching. It is an important part of cultivating students' core competence of physics.Traditional optical experiments have abstract theoretical knowledge, difficult debugging, long operation time and high measurement accuracy requirements,so it is difficult for students to comprehensively observe experimental phenomena by changing parameters within a limited period of time. With the development of modern science and technology, more and more teachers and researchers choose to use computer software to simulate optical experiment phenomena in order to make the phenomena clearer. The ‘Microcomputer-based Optical Experimental Instrument' guided by STEM education concepts have also emerged. This research analyzes the existing teaching modes of optics and tries to reveal the performance and limitations of the core competence of physics in the three teaching modes. We arranged the experimental group and the control group, with "light interference" as the topic, the two groups of students were given the traditional optical teaching and the new optical teaching integrated with modern educational technology respectively. The new optical teaching includes the use of computer simulations and Microcomputer-based Optical Experimental Instrument. We conducted two tests:(1)Investigate the students in the experimental group's acceptance to the new optical teaching;(2)Investigate the students in the experimental and the control group's attainment of core literacy of physics in “light interference”.The results of test(1)show that students have a high acceptance of the new optical teaching. The PTA scale was used to evaluate the test(2),and the results showed that:(1)The new optical teaching plays an obvious role in improving students' innovation ability and scientific essence.(2)Students in the experimental group were influenced by " Microcomputer-based Optical Experimental Instrument " and "computer simulation",which showed better "engineering literacy" when designing innovative experiments.Students in the control group were influenced by "traditional lecturing courses" and showed better "academic foundation" in designing innovative experiments. Therefore, when carrying out the teaching design of "light Interference",we not only use modern education technology to improve the efficiency of the curriculum, practice "STEM" education concept and implement engineering education policy, but also pay attention to the separation and explanation of knowledge in traditional teaching. Finally,we designed a physics curriculum that conforms to students' cognitive laws.
