Equations are an important part of algebra learning,and simple equations are an important part of algebra in elementary school.For the study of equations,attention should be paid to students' understanding,especially to understand the essence of its connotation and the mathematical thinking methods it contains.The concept of simple equation has duality,it is not only a kind of process operation,but also an object and structure.Therefore,the understanding of simple equations includes both structural understanding and procedural understanding.Based on the interpretation of textbooks,curriculum standards and literature,as well as the suggestions of tutors and front-line teachers,this study uses SOLO classification theory to divide the content of elementary school students' simple equations into “representing numbers with letters”,“equation form concepts”,“equation ideas” three dimensions,and based on this,the “Simple Equation Comprehension Level Test Paper for 5th Grade Primary School Students” was compiled.This research mainly adopts literature method,test method and interview method to analyze the current situation of elementary school students' understanding level of simple equations.The main question of this research is:what is the current state of the comprehension level of the fifth grade pupils' simple equations?In this study,Excel and SPSS 23.0 software were used to analyze the data,and the following conclusions were drawn:First,most of the fifth grade pupils' understanding of simple equations has reached the level of single-point structure and multi-point structure.Second,in the three dimensions of the content of simple equations,students' understanding of “representing numbers with letters” and “definition in the form of equations” is basically at the level of multi-point structure;students' understanding of “equation ideas” is slightly lower than before Both,basically reached the level of single-point structure,only about half of the students reached the level of multi-point structure.According to the data of the students' test papers and the results of the interviews,this paper analyzes the reasons for the current situation of the comprehension level of the primary school students,and puts forward some suggestions tentatively.
