"Exploring the laws" is a part of the whole process of teaching elementary school mathematics, and it occupies an important position in the mathematics curriculum. It plays an important role in the formation of basic literacy and the development of key skills of primary school students.Elementary school is a critical period for developing students’ observation, analysis, and reasoning skills,so it is of great value for educators to understand the current situation of primary school students’ problem solving and the problems that exist in the process of solving regularity problems. In recent years, research on the content of "exploring laws" has been gradually improved, but there is not enough research on the current situation of elementary school students’ problem solving in exploring laws.Based on this, this study takes "the current situation of sixth grade students’ problem solving in exploring patterns" as the main research question, prepares test papers based on the Compulsory Education Mathematics Curriculum Standards(2011 Edition)and textbooks, and constructs an evaluation tool for students’ problem solving ability in four stages, including understanding the problem, formulating a plan, executing the plan, and verifying the solution,by combining Polya’s "How to solve a problem table".The research results show that:(1)Students’ overall performance and performance in all stages of solving the problem of exploring rules are good, mostly at a medium level, but in each stage, the performance of students in the planning stage is slightly worse than the other three stages. There are significant gender differences in the overall performance of male and female students in solving the exploration pattern problem and in their performance at each stage, with male students having significantly higher ability than female students;(2)The students’ tendency to use strategies to solve different forms of exploring regularity problems is different.Compared with the comprehensive questions of exploration law, when students solve the single problem of exploration law,the tendency to use strategies is more consistent, and the diversity and accuracy of strategy use are higher;(3)students made errors in all stages of solving pattern exploration problems, including comprehension errors, formulation errors, strategic errors, and negligence errors.Based on the above analysis,in order to address the problems that arise when sixth graders solve problems of exploring patterns, this study concludes that:teachers should strengthen systematic training for students in the four stages of problem solving, including emphasis on mathematical reading and expression, infiltration of multiple problem solving strategies and active testing awareness,in order to improve students’ abilities in each stage;in addition, they should change their teaching concepts and pay attention to the process of students’ thinking,as well as improve the relevance of their own teaching design and pay attention to the teaching of the content of exploring patterns. |
