The “function inquiry column” in the People’s education edition of the high school mathematics textbook embodies several mathematical learning styles and concepts advocated by the high school mathematics curriculum,such as independent inquiry,hands-on experimentation,and cooperative communication,which are of great significance to the cultivation of practical skills and creativity among high school students.Therefore,the present study will research the following three questions:(1)What are the ways and effects of using the“function inquiry column” by high school expert math teachers?(2)What is the usage and effect of using the “function inquiry column” by high school novice math teachers?(3)What are the differences in the ways in which expert and novice mathematics teachers in high school use the“function inquiry column”?Based on the previous studies and suggestions of high school expert mathematics teachers and front-line teachers,the study designed questionnaire scales and classroom observation scales.The participants in the research are expert mathematics teachers and novice mathematics teachers in high school.The study investigated the ways and effects of the “function inquiry column” used by expert and novice mathematics teachers along four dimensions: awareness,integration,application,and judgement.It also further analyzed the findings through the interview method.The findings are as follows:The ways of using the “function inquiry column” by high school expert math teachers are(1)as a material for creating “problem situations”,(2)as a material for mathematical inquiry thinking,and(3)for setting up a math activity class.High school novice math teachers use the“function inquiry column” in the following ways:(1)as a classroom example or exercise;(2)integrating information technology with the “function inquiry column” teaching;(3)not using the“function exploring column in the appendix”.The effect of using the “function inquiry column” for high school expert math teachers is as follows: They use the “function inquiry column” as a mathematical investigation material,which works well to make the content of the textbook flexible,scientific,and innovative.Using the“function inquiry column” to set up “problem situations” makes the situations interesting,which refines and enhances students’ thinking.When the “function inquiry column” is set up as a mathematics activity class,it makes the textbook more comprehensive and the teaching content more complete.On the whole,the effect of using“function inquiry column”by senior high school expert mathematics teachers is better.The effect of using the “function inquiry column” for novice math teachers in high school:The “function inquiry column” is used as a classroom example or exercise to strengthen students’ understanding of knowledge points,but the effect is general.The integration of information technology and the teaching of the “function inquiry column” has a good effect,which is conducive to reducing the slope of students’ thinking and increasing their enthusiasm for learning.Based on the above conclusions,some suggestions are put forward for the reference of novice mathematics teachers.
