Today we are in an unprecedented era,and the rapid development of the economic has brought drastic changes. As an important cornerstone of China’s development, education is also undergoing this turbulent change. In 2013,under the guidance of the Ministry of Education,China ’s research on subject key competences was officially unveiled. In 2016,the overall framework for the key competences of Chinese student development was formally determined and released.China regards “student’s key competences training” as an important measures of further basic education reform, intending to train the talent adapted to the development of the new era.Geography is a science that studies the geographical environment and the relationship between human beings and the earth on which human beings live.Students who are good at geography can better help students understand the global environment in which we living, form human-land coordination, and live in harmony with nature. The key competences of geography refers to the literacy of the geography subject formed by the students through the study of the geography curriculum, the necessary personality and key competences from the common key competences of other basic education courses that are conducive to personal lifelong and social development. The key competences of geography covers four major areas: regional cognition, comprehensive thinking, coordination of man-earth,and geographic practices. This article will also investigate and discuss this.Geography of junior high school is the enlightenment stage of geography and the foundation of high school geography. Therefore, the training of junior high school students’ geography key competences is urgent. In order to explore the strategies for training the key competences of junior high school geography, based on Maslow’s humanistic theory,Piaget’s constructionist theory, and Gardner’s multiple intelligence theory, the literature review method, questionnaire survey method, and interviews were used.First, the junior high school students of the author’s school are the research objects.By issuing questionnaires on the status of key competences cultivation of junior high school students, the questionnaire data is processed and analyzed by using Excel and SPSS to obtain the factors in training the students’ geographic core literacy;secondly, collect the opinions and suggestions on the training strategies of junior high school geography key competences from the front-line junior high school geography teachers by interview;and finally apply them to actual teaching cases. The questionnaire survey on the cultivation of junior high school students’ geographical key competences found that the average score of all students was 67points(convert by percentage),the score of regional cognitive dimension was the lowest and the score of coordination of man-earth was the highest.Combining with the questionnaire information, the following conclusions are also proposed: firstly, the score of the geographical key competences training level of boys is higher than that of the girls, and the difference is statistically significant;secondly,Students who are interested in geography have higher geographical key competences levels than those who are not interested in geography, and the difference is statistically significant.Through interviewed teachers,it was concluded that teachers can actively learn the relevant theoretical knowledge of geography key competences in time and use it in daily geography teaching, but also encountered various problems and obstacles in teaching. There are constraints on the objective education environment and teachers’ personal abilities to be improved.According to the results of questionnaire data analysis and collecting teachers’ suggestions on the cultivation strategies of students’ geographical key competences,Combining with the author’s education and teaching practice and theoretical research, the junior high school students’ core strategies of geographical key competences training are concluded:(1)Closely connecting with reality and improve students’ regional cognitive ability(2)Innovating problem situations and develop students ’comprehensive thinking;(3)Paying attention to emotional rendering and promoting the formation of students’ coordination of man-earth;(4)Extending geography classrooms to cultivate students’ geographic practice skills;(5)Presenting diverse classes and enhancing students’ geography learning interests;(6)Increasing Geography teachers’ professionalism, promoting the reform of basic education. Finally, based on the training strategies proposed in this writing, the author designs a junior high school geography practical teaching case "Land Resources".
