From the proposed concept of core literacy and the increasingly clarification of the definition of subject core literacy,literacy has once again become a hot topic of public concerning.As the foundation of the subject core literacy,the cultivation of geographical literacy still plays an important role.In this situation,we should cover the deficiency of the traditional geography classroom teaching with the help of the geographical community activities,which can help the junior middle school students to develop their geographical literacy.This article is based on the research of community activities which cultivate middle school students’ geographical literacy.The research methods used in this study are literature research,questionnaire research and case study.The first part of this paper introduces the research background,content and significance,and puts forward the research methods,technical routes,and analyzes the theoretical basis.The second part defines the concepts of "societies","geographical societies" and "geographic literacy",analyzes and summarizes the study of geographical associations,domestic and international geographic literacy.In the third part,the author shows the investigation of middle schools by questionnaire in an area to know the current situation of all kinds of geography literacy.For example,the unbalanced development of various literacy,the existence of regional differences,continuity of literacy growth,significant differences in literacy among different sexes,and significant differences in literacy based on community activities.And the author analyzed them based on the results of the survey;The fourth part summarizes the unique function of the geographical community activities in the reconstruction of geographical knowledge structure,the growth of geographical skills,the enhancement of geographical concept and the promotion of geographical emotion.According to different literacy,different programs for different geographical community activities can be organized,such as building community activities with characteristics of discipline,to cultivate the literacy of students’knowledge.Topic inquiry community activities can be organized to cultivate students’humanistic quality.Participatory and experiential geographical community activities can be organized to cultivate students’ practical literacy.Community activities of map identification can be carried out to cultivate students’ spatial literacy.Community activities with the help of information technology can be sought to cultivate students’information technology literacy,and specific guidance measures should be put forward.The fifth part takes the school where the author is as a case to analyze the present situation of cultivating geography literacy in the establishment of the geographical community activities of the school,and puts forward the targeted reconstruction plans.In a word,cultivate students’ geographic literacy with the help of geographic community activities is a feasible way of teaching.It covers the deficiency of the classroom learning in cultivating geographic literacy.It activates the students’ desire to explore geography,and promotes the rapid development of students’ literacy.Therefore,when carrying out community activities,we should cultivate all kinds of literacy throughout the community activities,so that they could integrate and infiltrate to each other.In these activities,we should not only pay attention to the content of cultivating,but also pay attention to the effect of cultivating.According to the campus resources and regional geographical characteristics,middle schools can guide the establishment of distinctive and quality communities based on their interests.Based on the value and characteristics of geography,we should guide community activities from the perspective of geography,so that disciplines can endow the vitality of communities.
