A Comparative Study On The Text Selection System Of The People Education Edition And The Unified Edition Of High School Language Textbooks

At now the high school language textbooks are experiencing a great reformation,there existed five versions of high school language textbooks before 2019: the People Education Edition,the Guangdong Education Edition,the Jiangsu Education Edition,the Language Edition,and the Shandong People Education Edition,of which the longest and most widely used was the People Education Edition.However,in order to better adapt to the changes in social life in the new era and to meet the needs of national development,a new high school language textbook organized by the Ministry of Education,referred to as the Unified Edition,emerged in 2019.The Unified Edition was completed in 2019 and started to be used on a trial basis in six provinces,and will be extended to all provinces in 2022,which means that the high school language textbooks have ended the era of "one platform with several editions".Although the Unified Edition is an innovation based on the People Education Edition,the changes are significant,and it is inevitable to study it in order to better understand and use it for the purpose of this educational reformation.Among the four systems of textbook,the text selection system is the most central part.So in this paper,we will compare the text selection system of the People Education with that of the Unified Edition to explore the innovations of the Unified Edition textbook,and then reflect on the text selection system of the Unified Edition in the context of relevant pedagogical theories,and make suggestions for revision and usage,in the hope of providing reference for the continuous improvement of the Unified Edition textbook and its use by teachers.In the introductory section,we first clarify the necessity and significance of studying the Unified Edition textbook in the context of its status and use,and then comparatively study the the difference in details between the text selection system of the People Education Edition textbook and that of the Unified Edition textbook by reading the research results of the Unified Edition textbook in the databases of various dissertation platforms,which is a innovation point of this study.In the first chapter,through the interpretation and comparative analysis of the curriculum standards corresponding to the two editions of textbook,we conclude that the writing concept of the Unified Edition textbook not only inherits the requirements of the People Education Edition textbook,but also puts forward new concepts such as "moral education","core language literacy" and "learning task clusters".This makes the guiding ideology of the Unified Edition textbook more directional and instructive,and more reflective of the national will.The second chapter is a comparative analysis of the curriculum structure and layout of the two editions,which shows that the Unified Edition textbook has a more hierarchical structure,with the addition of optional compulsory courses,making the textbook more selective and prescriptive.At the same time,there is also a great innovation in the organization of the units.Instead of organizing the units based on genre,the units are organized by humanities themes and learning task clusters,and the types of units are diversified,including reading and writing unit,activity unit,and whole-book reading unit.We conclude that the structure of the Unified Edition textbook is more scientific.The third chapter is the core of the study,which starts from the text selection system and compares the data of the two editions in terms of the volume of selected texts,changes in titles,era,genre,country,and subject matter,and then analyzes the changes in the text selection and the characteristics of the Unified Edition textbook based on the data,and evaluates the advantages and disadvantages of the changes based on relevant pedagogical theories.Chapter 4 summarizes the characteristics of the text selection system of the Unified Edition textbook and proposes corresponding modifications,and then gives suggestions for schools and teachers on their use.The school administrators should raise awareness,create favorable conditions for the use of the textbook,and conduct more corresponding trainings;the teachers should study the concepts and features of the Unified Edition textbook,pay attention to the guidance of students' values,and focus on the reformation and innovation of teaching methods.
