Academic performance is one of the important indicators for evaluating students’ school adaptation and academic achievement. The development of primary school students’ academic performance is affected by family involvement and students’ personality traits.Father involvement is an important part of family involvement. It refers to the sum of all the inputs that fathers make to meet the growth needs of their children in the process of raising children.Father involvement has an important influence on the psychological, social and behavioral development of primary school students.Grit is an internal personality trait of an individual, which refers to the individual’s persistent efforts and steady interest in achieving long-term goals. The grit of primary school students may be affected by the father’s own gender role characteristics and behavior, which in turn affects their efforts in learning and the retention of learning enthusiasm, and ultimately affects the development of academic performance. Therefore, this research introduces grit to explore whether the relationship between father involvement and pupils’ academic performance is affected by the mediation of grit.Because parents and children co-exist in a family system, grit may be regulated by other factors within the family. Therefore, this study introduces mother involvement to explore whether it plays a moderating role between father involvement, grit, and academic performance, and study the inner influence mechanism of father involvement on pupils’ academic performance. This study selected 591 elementary school students and their fathers and mothers as the research objects, using the father involvement questionnaire, the mother involvement questionnaire and the grit questionnaire,to examine the relationship between father involvement and the pupils’ academic performance, and the relationship between grit and mother involvement. The main conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)Father involvement has a significant positive impact on pupils’ academic performance;(2)Father involvement, grit and academic performance have a significant positive correlation;(3)Grit plays a complete mediating role in father involvement and academic performance achievements;(4)Mother involvement has a moderating role among father involvement, grit and academic performance. The four variables constitute a mediating mediator model.Mother involvement adjusts the first half of the mediating effect.Based on the above research results,it is found that father involvement is an important protective factor for pupils to develop grit and achieve good academic performance.Mother involvement and father involvement interact with each other to affect pupils’ academic performance.
