| The Curriculum Standards for History under the Compulsory Education(2011Edition)have outlined new requirements for various ways of presenting historical materials,among which pictures have gradually gained popularity among the public.Paintings as an important subcategory of pictures as historical materials,works of art that are suitable for middle school history teaching at middle school level and can reflect the historical authenticity or historical significance.It features historical prominence,strong artistic quality and great visual impact.In addition to conveying historical information,it can also stimulate students’ motivation to study and encourage them to build upright values,historical views and aesthetic taste.According to the statistics of paintings being used as historical materials in middle school history textbooks,there are several issues affecting teachers and students in lesson preparation and the learning process,including the limited selection of paintings as well as lack of sufficient descriptions.From the perspective of paintings being used in middle school history teaching,such application should pay attention to the significant role of paintings such as introducing new lessons,elaborating obscure points,as well as enriching teaching content.Furthermore,teachers should good at searching for different types of painting,combining paintings with syllabus,using paintings to describe history in order to meet the teaching objective.For example,through the ancient Chinese female figure paintings ‘ Lei Zu Raising Silkworms’ and‘Concubine Yang Getting on a Horse’,it can create suspense and attract learners’ interest.Through the‘Princess Wencheng Entering Tibet’and‘Empress of Tang Dynasty Traveling’,it can probe into profound and abstruse subjects and help understand some key and obscure points.Through the Paintings of‘Lady of Guo State Outing in Spring’and‘Classic of Filial Piety’,the historical information can be conveyed in a way that is similar to that a straw shows which way the wind blows.In the female figure paintings of the Tang Dynasty,the clothes commonly used by women at that time were skirts,men’s clothes and clothes from minority ethnic group Hu.These clothes full of Tang Dynasty characters can showcase the spiritual qualities of plump and confident women with free spirits and willingness to pursue the new trend.Furthermore,it reflects the characteristics of the Tang dynasty,and the historical laws behind them.By reviewing the female figure paintings of the Tang Dynasty,we can see the political and economic prosperity of that time,the openness and inclusiveness of the society as well as the significant improvement of women’s social status. |
