STEAM education emphasizes the integration of multi-disciplinary knowledge such as science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics in the context of exploring real problems,so as to cultivate innovative and interdisciplinary talents with STEAM literacy. In recent years, with the exploration and establishment of domestic new education systems,STEAM education has attracted more and more attention.Researchers actively conduct research on the theory and practice of STEAM education, trying to provide ideas and solutions for China’s basic education to integrate with STEAM education concept. This paper takes the Compulsory Education Textbook · Chemistry published by Shandong Education Press in 2012(hereinafter referred to as Shandong Version Chemistry Textbook)as the research object. After a thorough literature investigation, interviews and questionnaires on "STEAM education" are conducted among first-line chemistry teachers in order to analyze the feasibility and possible problems of implementing STEAM education in chemistry teaching in middle school.According to the above survey results, the Shandong Version Chemistry Textbook is analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively by using the G.ST∑@M framework to explore the distribution and characteristics of STEAM knowledge points in the textbooks, and to provide suggestions for the revision of chemistry textbooks integrating STEAM education concept and the development of chemistry teaching based on STEAM education. This paper is composed of six chapters, and the specific content of each part is as follows:Chapter 1: The development history and research status of STEAM education at home and abroad are summarized.Today,Steam education has become a hot research topic in the field of education and its research direction is mainly focused on primary and secondary education. The implementation of STEAM education in chemistry classes in middle schools mainly depends on textbooks with STEAM education concept.Based on this,we determine the research content, ideas, methods and innovation points of this paper.Chapter 2: The core concepts are elaborated and defined, and the theoretical basis of STEAM education is introduced.Chapter 3: Survey research.A survey on "STEAM education" was conducted on front-line chemistry teachers through interviews and questionnaires to understand their cognition and the application of STEAM education, and to explore the feasibility and possible problems of the integration of STEAM education concept in chemistry textbook.Chapter 4 and 5: Textbook analysis.According to the survey and research results, the contents and knowledge points of the textbook are classified and counted by using the of G.St∑@M framework, and the results are quantitatively analyzed for the breadth and the integration degree of knowledge.Qualitative analysis is made from four dimensions of column design, content arrangement, knowledge presentation and value orientation, and the integration situation of STEAM education concept in current textbooks is obtained and illustrated by using teaching cases.Chapter 6: Conclusion and Outlook.By summarizing the results of the survey and textbook analysis,it is concluded that STEAM education is an effective teaching form that can promote chemistry teaching and cultivate the core literacy of students.Based on the enlightenment of this study, some suggestions are proposed from three aspects:textbook compilation, teacher teaching and teaching evaluation.
