It is an important idea of international science curriculum reform to cultivate science literacy of students, and the tenet of science education is improvement of science literacy of all the people. Basic education stage is a crucial period of cultivating science literacy of students. Chemistry, which is considered as a branch of natural science, is a major constituent part of science education of junior high school. And chemistry textbook is an important carrier of transferring chemistry curriculum theory into practice. With the depth of basic education curriculum reform, various editions of chemistry textbook of junior high school have put into use. Many education workers are concerned about how to analyze and evaluate these textbooks, but little literature analyze and evaluate textbook from the perspective of "improvement of science literacy of students". Therefore, there is important practical and theoretical value to choose "Analysis on Chemistry Textbook of Junior High School Based on Development of Science Literacy of Students" as my topic. This paper consists of four chapters. The first chapter explains the causes of selecting this research, including the tendency and requirement of international and national science education curriculum reform; discusses the significance of this research; summarizes current situation of science literacy and textbook analysis and their related research; expounds the aims of this research and raises methods and research directions of this research. The second chapter discusses theoretical basis of this research. Through analyzing the connotation and elements of science literacy, six elements are put forward, such as science knowledge, science exploration, science methods, science spirit, science attitude and CTS. Relating these to aims and contents of science literacy in "the national curriculum standards of chemistry", "textbook analysis model based on science literacy" is constructed, and the specific textbook analysis index is established from the perspective of cultivating science literacy of students. The third chapter is about the theoretical analysis of this paper. According to textbook analysis & evaluation indicator made in this research, two current editions of chemistry textbook of junior high school are elected to make comparative analysis. Analysis & evaluation will be done by adoption of ranks (excellent, good, average, poor) and assigned marks (four, three, two, one). The forth chapter is the practical research of this paper. According to the content of six elements of science literacy in chapter two, questionnaire of teachers and students are made. Teachers and students of two kinds of high school are elected as subjects, and uses Excel to collect and analyze data. The end of paper synthesizes the theoretical analysis and the practical research, and discusses the analysis result of the two textbook editions. Then the limitations of this research are raised and some proposals and expectations for the future research are put forward.
