It is stated in The Mathematics Curriculum Standard of Senior High School(2017 Edition)that mathematics education should promote the development of students’ thinking ability,practical ability and innovation consciousness,and help students form a correct outlook on life,values and the world.STEM(Science,Technology,Engineering and Mathematics)is a comprehensive education concept intregating the different subjects and the interdisciplinary fields.Nowadays,mathematics education tends to focus on cultivating and improving students’ mathematics literacy and the ability of operation,innovation and teamwork.Therefore,the middle school mathematics teaching based on STEM education concept is just in time.This paper do some researches on the middle school mathematics teaching under the STEM education concept and achieves the following three results,through the methods of the literature research,the case analysis and the questionnaire survey.First,through literature research and case analysis,this paper studies the relationship between middle school mathematics teaching and STEM education concept,finds out the marginalization of mathematics elements in the application of STEM education concept,and clarifies the important role of mathematics teaching in STEM education concept.Through literature research,combing and analyzing the relevant literature,the research background of the subject is explained,the research problems and theoretical basis are clarified,and the relevant concepts is defined for the preparation of the knowledge necessary for the research.Through case analysis,this paper analyzes the case of STEM education activities in the United States,excavates the mathematical elements in the analysis of case tasks,and highlights the link role of middle school mathematics in STEM education concept.Second,by means of questionnaire survey,the application status of STEM education concept and its feasibility in middle school mathematics teaching are studied.It is found that the STEM education concept can be widely applied in middle school mathematics teaching.Among them,the mathematical modeling teaching activity is considered as an important way for the implementation of STEM education concept in middle school mathematics teaching.It is also found in the survey that the application of STEM education concept in middle school mathematics teaching has not yet reached a wide extent as expected.However,most mathematics teachers are interested in and have some understandings of it,and they are optimistic about its application in middle school mathematics teaching in the near future.Thirdly,through case analysis,in this paper I does some researches on the significance of STEM education concept to middle school mathematics teaching,and found that applying it to middle school mathematics teaching appropriately can help to improve the effectiveness of teaching.On the basis of the previous research and investigation,it is clear that STEM education concept can improve students’ mathematical literacy,innovation ability and teamwork ability,by analyzing the examples of mathematical modeling teaching activities under the STEM education concept of L school.
