A Study On Teacher-student Interaction In The Classroom Of Teaching Chinese To British Pupils Based On COLT Scale

Abstract/Summary:
Classroom teacher-student interaction is the most important part of classroom observation.A quantitative comparative analysis of Chinese classroom in primary schools in Wales was carried out by using the COLT Evaluation Language Teaching scale.First of all,in order to prove the research value of Chinese classroom in primary school,the author investigated all the Volunteer Chinese Teachers in UK through questionnaire survey.The result is that most Chinese classes are in primary schools and the learners are mostly zero level.By summing up the previous research results and combining with my teaching experience for many years,the author revised the COLT scale,deleted the classification items which were not suitable for the primary school classroom,observed and videotaped the classroom of experienced teacher and the new teacher,and compared and analyzed the following conclusions:The present situation of English primary school Chinese classroom is mainly based on vocabulary and phonetic teaching,cultural teaching plays an important role in arousing interest;listening and speaking skills training is the main goal;the whole class activity controlled by teachers is the main;A large number of students’ mother tongues are used in the classroom.The difference between experienced teacher and new teacher is that they both make good use of the TPR teaching method and pay attention to functional teaching and cultural teaching.But the experienced teacher used various classroom activities.The target language is used properly,the speech speed was moderate,the instruction was clear,the enlightening teaching method was used well,and the teaching style is outstanding.But the new teacher’s classroom activities are lack of different forms,the speech speed was too fast,the instruction was vague,and use a big proportion of the student mother tongue,mostly indoctrination teaching.The difference between students of different ages is that fifth graders are more able to help teachers organize classes,while second graders prefer to imitate and follow.Finally,the author puts forward his own suggestions to the new Chinese teachers who are going to UK: first,to use the target language as much as possible in the classroom management language and the evaluation language,and to form their own teaching style.Second,problem-oriented,preset problems,ready to solve problems.The third is to increase the professional knowledge of children’s educational psychology,understand the learning psychology of students of different ages,and use differentiated teaching skills to teach students.
