| Textbook research is a vital part of education and instruction research.Facing the current bottleneck of domestic textbook research that is based on qualitative text analysis,it is urgent to incorporate new research methods and research perspectives.A large number of empirical studies have shown that when some interesting but irrelevant information were added to the learning materials, that is,seductive details,it will weaken students’ performance in the ability test, including the ability of retention and transfer.Although this kind of research has attracted the attention and discussion of domestic scholars, judging from the number and content of published papers, the current understanding of seductive details is not deep enough.Through historical and literature review, this study sorts out the development history of seductive details in chronological order, and digs out the theoretical basis behind it.Then take the sixth grade Science textbook which is compiled by Educational Science Publishing House as an example, through text analysis and quantitative statistics to show the existence of seductive details in the textbook. Finally, through 2(seductive details: yes or no)×2(typographical signals: yes or no)experimental design, students in the sixth grade of elementary school are used as the experimental objects to explore whether the seductive details have a negative effect on students in the lower grades, and whether the typographical signals can effectively moderate the seductive details effect. This study found that the proportion of seductive pictures in the sixth grade Science textbook has reached about 18%.In addition, from the results of experimental research, the seductive details also show negative effects in the lower-grade student groups in our country, that is,after students learn materials that contain seductive details, their retention performance(memory ability of knowledge)is disturbed. Therefore, research on seductive details in textbooks has to be taken seriously. In addition, for the seductive details effect,it is not the best solution to eliminate all the seductive details in a directly manner. In the experiment, the intervention method of highlighting important knowledge points through typographical signals has shown a certain effect in moderating the seductive details effect, but there are still limitations. In the future,it is necessary to further explore what kind of intervention methods can be used to make teaching materials have the potential to stimulate interest without interfering with students’ learning. |
