The 21st century is the century of the sea.The importance attached to the maritime domain is a new feature of the development of human society in the new century. At the basic education level, students need to first establish a correct and clear awareness of China's maritime rights and territory. With the promulgation of the General High School History Curriculum Standards(2017)(later referred to as the "New Curriculum"),The unified senior secondary history textbook "Outline of Chinese and Foreign History"(later referred to as the "unified version"),which was prepared by the Ministry of Education, has been gradually put into use. This article takes the Maritime History as an entry point.By combing through textbooks on the governance and management of China's coastal frontiers through the ages,it enables students to understand the changes and development of China's coastal frontiers through the ages,to recognise the historical fact that the sea frontier and the land frontier together form an inseparable and unchangeable part of China's territorial map,and to develop a sense of natural identification with maritime sovereignty. The paper begins with a statement of the reasons for and significance of the chosen topic, and then summarises the existing research, finding that there is a lack of research on the writing of secondary school history textbooks from the perspective of maritime history. The body of the paper begins by exploring the requirements and needs for writing maritime history, that is,by analysing the concerns of the new curriculum for writing maritime history in the light of its requirements. As well as starting from the realistic needs for the preparation of the content of the history of the maritime frontier.through the combing of the evolution of the concept of maritime power through the ages, the link between the history of the maritime frontier and the education of the security awareness of the maritime state is analysed in the light of the needs of the realistic maritime homeland security,so as to achieve the purpose of knowing the past and learning the present, and studying history wisely.Secondly,a statistical comparison of the content of the Human Education Edition and the Unified Edition of the History of the Sea Frontier is made. The content is analysed and compared in four aspects:maritime land, maritime economy, maritime defence awareness and maritime transport, and then the presentation of the Unified Edition is analysed. The strengths of the textbook are the accurate use of historical images and the weaknesses of the textbook are the absence of important elements of maritime history, the misuse of historical sources and the lack of integration between ancient and modern times. The textbook is then presented with suggestions for improvement, and the content of the history of the sea and frontier in the unified textbook is again sorted out in depth to identify the "hidden" sea and frontier history in the textbook and add to the existing research to integrate the knowledge of the development of the ancient Chinese sea and frontier. This is followed by some suggestions for the development of maritime history in the textbook:setting up columns to expand historical events;supplementing the content with an additional perspective on sea and land;and systematising the interface between junior and senior levels. Finally, there are reflections on the teaching of maritime frontier history in textbooks. One is the application of a maritime frontier history perspective by teachers to teach secondary school history in the classroom, with teaching clips attached;the other is a focus on real-life issues from maritime frontier history, with specific pedagogical suggestions on how to develop students' education in possessing a sense of maritime homeland security. The concluding section looks forward to learning from history and focusing on the teaching of maritime frontier history.
