A Research Of The Applicability Of Chinese Textbooks In Ghana ——A Case Study Of Happy Chinese

This article focuses on the inadequacy of the universal Chinese textbook "Happy Chinese"(English version)applied during the teaching process at two Chinese language centers under the Confucius Institute at University of Cape Coast in Ghana.This inadequacy causes a heavy burden for teachers prepare their lessons,and difficulty for students to understand and absorb knowledge.First of all,the author briefly introduced the basic situation,include the setting of Confucius Institute at University of Cape Coast in Ghana and the two language centers,and the general situation of they use the textbook.Next,the author take the form interviews with the teaching management teachers of Confucius Institute at University of Cape Coast in Ghana,and separate interviews with teachers.The author also designed questionnaires and had individual interviews with students to systematically investigate the use of the "Happy Chinese"(English version)textbook by students.The points are the difficulty is not suitable for students,the content of the textbooks requires a lot of supplementary teaching by teachers,the explanation and practice of pinyin and Chinese characters are too thin,the convey of grammar points is not clear and lacks Chinese cultural knowledge.Then,a systematic analysis was made on the adaptability of the textbooks in the two schools.The investigation of the actual effects was detailed to the applicability analysis of the teaching of each language element,and conclusions were drawn.Finally,the teachers of the Confucius Institute at University of Cape Coast working on the compilation of local Chinese textbooks.The author hope that this research will provide practicable suggestions of various aspects of content for the selection and compilation of local textbooks for the Confucius Institute at University of Cape Coast.
